This is another of these films for which I didn't get the memo. It undoubtedly has parallels with the ecological ravaging of Earth by mankind, but for the most part it is just a fairly standard action romance that owes much of it's significance to it being an outstanding technical production. Sam Worthington is "Jake", a paraplegic solider who is tasked with assisting on a mission on a distant planet. By way of a bribe, the authorities offer him surgery to restore his mobility if he uses an avatar machine to infiltrate the folks inhabiting the planet "Pandora". The more he explores this bright new world, the more he begins to integrate with the people and their beautiful and colourful environment. His affection for "Neytiri" (Zoe Saldana) and his gradually developing appreciation of just what his mission is about, sets him up for a serious conflict with the gung-ho militaristic "Quaritch" (Stephen Lang). This film is all about corporate greed and an horrendous disregard not just for nature, but for an indigenous population that is though frequently touching, let down by a really mediocre cast, some slightly pontificating dialogue and yes, it is really too long. It is great to look at, the standards of the production mixing reality with animation are outstanding; it's just that the story is just all a bit lightweight.

    good
The main film of 2009 is "Avatar" by James Cameron, producer of such films as "Terminator", "Titanic", "Aliens". It belongs to the genre of science fiction.

The plot is quite simple: the superhero Avatar has to save an alien planet, and he faces many difficulties to complete this mission.

What impressed me the most was the fascinating alien world that we see through the eyes of the main character. Special effects and 3D technologies enhance the impression of a bright and colorful world, unlike the human one, which is gray and dying. The plot of the film is developing rapidly, with some funny episodes.

To sum up, I can say that the movie "Avatar" is the film that takes us into a special world that is beyond imagination.

    A 2009 SCI-FI FILM
Rating: 9.5/10 First watch was in 2009 in IMAX 3D

A classic that is ahead of its time and has visual effects better than most films made nowadays in the 2020s with high budgets and you cannot argue about that.

-A story about a beautiful world, land, and people of Pandora told in a runtime of 3 hours that are full of events and interesting characters. More importantly, a story about stealing, and trying to take control to gain...power and high position.

-A story about indigenous people and indigenous land -A love story and a connection between two different creatures that come together.

Interesting and creative design of blue creatures that are Avatars, as well as the world of Pandora from the landscapes, and just everything

Totally agree with those who say that the film is boring. It does have its flaws for sure where the story declines strongly. But, doesn't mean that it fails completely as a whole Sci-Fi motion picture.

Zoe Saldana shines in the film from her facial expressions, body language & movements, and voice specifically during emotional sequences and scenes where she has to express anger and grief.

If you don't care about how a film looks you are going to hate this because that's all it has going for it
I think one of the most disappointing pieces of news I've ever heard in my life was that James Cameron was just going to make 'Avatar' sequels from here on out. He's unbelievably talented as we know from everything he did before 'Avatar'. This film though was a massive let down.

I feel like all that he cared about in making this film was the visual effects. He just wanted to blow people away with what he could show them, and decided just any old plot would do. It's about as cookie-cutter as scripts ever get, just checking each tick mark along the way.

The film is long and it feels long. Nothing of interest happens for lengthy periods and even when something of interest does happen you don't care because there are no characters to give a hoot about.

This film was not for me in case you can't tell. It represents everything I hate in cinema. Safe, unoriginal, by the book nonsense. A generous 3/10.

The present is appalling, and the future is bleak
"The Na'vi say that every person is born twice. The second time is when you earn your place among the people, forever."

The film is set during the 22nd century where humanity is scrambling to find alternative energy sources and is on the brink of collapse and extinction. To combat the ever-growing climate crisis, humans set out to infiltrate a remote location dubbed 'Pandora' and to find some common ground with the native population which calls itself 'the na'vi'. Unfortunately, human beings are depicted as absolute monsters who don't care about forming intrapersonal relationships with the na'vi and to live together in harmony, instead they seek to extract some kind of energy source from below the ground to combat the climate crisis. The film does an excellent job at showcasing the limitations of the human mind, as opposed to a far superior and developed mind of the na'vi. It does not beat around the bush and devotes an extensive amount of time to forging a connection between spectator and the na'vi. I had goosebumps rewatching this and was completely immersed in the story. The action set pieces, cinematography, acting, and screenplay (for the most part) are superb. I forgot how much I loved this movie. Entering Pandora is magical and extraordinary. I loved the ending as well where Jake Sully fully embraces his Na'vi side.

    Final verdict: 8.5/10.

    Amazing movie
This movie is very advanced for its time and has very well made cinematography. Although like most movies, is not perfect. There is always room for improvement and I see no difference with this movie.

I recently watched this film again in the cinema and noticed maybe a couple plot holes could have been fixed, but other then that it was a great movie.

I would also like to give credit to the actors who did a wonderful job throughout this film and were particularly impressive in this film.

I hope avatar 2 is as brilliant as this film and will make just as much money as this film. After waiting for 13 years.

A gorgeous and immersive film, with a story! and plenty of heart
I rewatched Avatar since I hadn't seen it since it first came out. I watched it twice when it came out and saw it in 3d which amplified my experience with it. If any film was built for 3d it's this film, but even without it I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting it. A common complaint I hear about this film is that it doesn't have a story, but what about Jake Sully's story? What about Sigourney Weaver's story? Or Zoe Saldana's Neytiri?

Those three characters are the story driven elements of this film, and I was invested in each one of them. People only praise this film for it's CGI or special effects, but I feel that it deserves better than that. Theme's of belonging, family and acceptance are weaved wonderfully into the narrative, as well as a strong environmental theme which some people will hate, but may fail to see the importance behind it.

Avatar is an emotional journey which take's audiences to a brand new world of beauty and wonder, and for it's younger viewers, could have a range of lessons which inspire and enlighten there minds.

    Original avatar. Still a classic!
WHY ARE PEOPLE LEAVING REVIEWS FOR THE NEW MOVIE HERE??? This is for the original (sheesh). The ORIGINAL movie is a magical adventure. A classic! When it came out in 2009 it was a cinematic masterpiece! Please, new watcher, don't judge this movie by 2022 standards because you are just watching it for the first time. Because back then, we all left the theater amazed and in awe! The plot, acting, technology, all made us fall in love with this movie and we have been waiting to see what happened after he opened his eyes in the closing scene for 14 years! And the movie has aged well. The themes are extremely relevant (unfortunately) and the movie is equally as enjoyable as it was years ago. I am excited to see part 2 on the big scene!

Now Got leave your review for part 2 on the correct page!

    DEAR AVATAR
    Dear Avatar,

When we first met you 13 years ago, it was love at first sight. We fell hard for your beauty, originality, ingenious and ingenuity. You showed us things we never thought were possible. We wanted to make you an iconic part of us. We thought you would be there for us again and again and you would be a treasure we could carry with us and pass on to our children. A jewel that never tarnishes, like Star Wars, Toy Story, and Harry Potter.

But then you left us. We waited anxiously for over a decade for your return. After so many false promises, we slowly began to lose hope that we would ever see you again. We began to resign ourselves to the idea that we would just have try and cling to the faint, disappearing memories. Then memories turned to indifference, and indifference into forgetting. And we found ourselves in a place where we no longer cared for you at all.

But alas, one day we heard of your returning, and we allowed ourselves to discover a hope that had long since been buried. With cautious optimism, we allowed ourselves to look forward to seeing you again; to learn what had happened to you; where you had been and what new an exciting things you would show to us once again.

And there you were, all 3 hours and 12 minutes of you, beckoning us to come and see. And so we did...

But what we saw was wholly underwhelming. Yes, you still had the same beauty, but that was exactly the problem. We found none of the originality or ingenuity we had once known. How disappointing it was to see that after 13 long years, you had nothing new for us to see. Your plot, your dialogue, your heroes, villains, were all the same. In fact, you seemed to go out of your way to try and be the same, pathetically inventing bizarre explanations for why the same characters who had died were brought back to life and reinserted.

After all this time, did you really believe that if you threw on a fresh coat of CGI and exchanged land for water that this would be all it took to believe you were different? Regrettably, it didn't work. We saw you... the same you from 13 years ago.

And still, after showing us nothing new, you leave us again wanting us to pine for yet another day you come around again. Well, not this time Avatar. You may want to continue wasting money going round and round in the same circle, but will waste no more of ours.

For you have made our return into the sea of forgetfulness a much shorter journey than the first time. Maybe the next time you decide to show up, it won't take as long and you will bring something new, but honestly, at this point, if you decide never to come back again, that's okay too.

    Unloyally removed, Your ex-fans.

    Visually Stunning and beautiful story!
My first watch of Avatar (2009) was with my dad several years ago and strangely enough, it was one of those films that didn't resonate in my head for all these years. Since my love of films, I've been hearing overwhelmingly positive reviews on it and I kept telling myself to watch it! Luckily the re-release back in September, I was able to have a chance to watch it "the way it was meant to be seen".

With that said, I think this is a spectacular film from start to finish. It has great characters, a brilliant story and most of all, state of the art visuals!

It's currently as of now on Disney+ but hopefully will be added onto more services in the future.

If your a sci-fi, action film fan, I totally recommend that you check this film out!
