After Will Spann's wife suddenly vanishes at a gas station, his desperate search to find her leads him down a dark path that forces him to run from authorities and take the law into his own hands.
carolinecaldwell - 7 May 2024 gripping Gerard was as convincing as it gets, the growing stress and anxiety he feels turns to determination, desperation, courage, anger and a thought process which brings him to certain realisations. Gerard was made for this part, he always delivers, always believable in his roles. Has a great naturel style, slightly understated. I was scared to death throughout that he might not make it. Plenty of nasty characters to fill out the story. I was totally gripped by this film, right up my street, more like this please Gerard. Reminded me of Breakdown with Kurt Russell, terrifying. Thanks for a great evenings entertainment.
jcmadsen-2 - 11 December 2023 Have you seen...? Have you seen "The Vanishing"? Have you seen "Breakdown"? You have? Then avoid this movie all costs. It's the same movie only you couldn't care less if the 'victim' is alive or dead.
Spoiler - she's ALIVE! Although you'll know that from the first scene when the rando dude in the back of the cop car says she's dead.
Oh, she loooooves her hubby. Then she wants a divorce/separation/time off up until the final 10 minutes and then it's all springtime and flowers.
Man, I wanted her dead so bad. And, her parents. And, Gerard Butler's character (can't recall his name because I do not care).
Go outside and find an electrified fence and pee on it and the sparks caused will be better than the meth lab explosion special effect.
skanklover_69 - 6 July 2023 Surprisingly tense, gritty & entertaining low key action thriller A straight forward, simple plot can be a positive thing. It's what makes Last Seen Alive relatable & engaging. A man's wife goes missing when they stop at a service station and we follow his increasingly desperate efforts to find her. I don't want to spoil it but what he finds is believable, unlike Taken and other films.
The acting and dialogue is grounded in realism. Rock solid and involving. The exchanges between Butlers character & his wife's parents, the police and others are gripping drama. The direction from the cinematography, editing & sound is effective and creates a suspenseful atmosphere.
I was expecting a lame, straight to streaming quality movie but I was pleasantly surprised. If you're in the mood for a lean, entertaining thriller see it.
iiltoxic - 22 December 2022 A Re-Imagining of Breakdown Not sure why everyone is bashing this movie. I thought it had some similarities to Breakdown with Kurt Russell while being different at the same time. It had some great suspenseful moments in it and ultimately, I liked it. Is it Gerard Butler's best work? No, but it was still enjoyable. I didn't quite understand why he was using a toned down Scottish accent in the movie...in fact, in the beginning I thought he was a little careless and let his natural accent through by accident, but then it went on the whole movie like that. The detective got a little irritating with the interrogation scene, but luckily it didn't last too long. All in all, I'd give this a 6/10.
onlyjordie - 23 October 2022 Mostly in the middle The acting was phenomenal, but the movie felt sped up. I think if this movie was 30 minutes longer, maybe it would have been better. I just can't put my finger on what part would have been better if more time was added. The way the show was done made me think this was going to be one of those movies where the cops/in-laws assumed the husband did it, and for a minute, it looked like that. Then it changed without much acknowledgement until the end. I suppose it was assumed since the cop followed the trail that Gerard did. With that being said, Gerard Butler certainly knows how to make the audience feel whatever it is he's experiencing. I felt as if I could understand how he felt if I were in that situation.
mnsmb7 - 16 October 2022 Directing, Acting and Writing? Not that this movie isn't entertaining, but some scenes are hard to get through. The acting by Butler is pretty solid because that's what you would expect from someone with his caliber of acting. The supporting actors were either plagued with poor writing or directing. Certain moments the scene completely blows up with overacting and yelling almost like you missed some part of the conversation. The whole premise of the movie is actually ridiculous but there are explosions, killing and drama. I would really give it like a 4.5/10. The scenes where Gerard is interacting with his wife's parents, interacting with Knuckles and at the end when the cops know he kidnapped knuckles and yet he is just not handcuffed allowed to roam around is just part of the ridiculousness.
