Great cinema with indian history on big screen.
There was many things to like about this movie and there were few flaws.

Costumes - 10 Cast -10 Acting - 10 Story - 9 Music -7 Dialogues- 10 Action- 7 Cast did a great job Vikram, Trisha & Aishwarya were exceptional. Great political drama from ancient Indian history. I enjoyed learning about the Cholas, Pandyas, Pallavas. A better introduction in the beginning would have been better.

Flaw : There was no need of many dance sequences in the movie. Some action scenes were way too long than they should have been. Typical Indian film making mistakes. CGI work was underwhelming. Action scenes were lacking authenticity. More focus on storytelling would have made this movie marvelous. Overall great movie.

    Great comeback for Mani Sir
Amazing film and truly gave me the best theatre experience. But again this film has both the positives and negatives.

POSITIVES: 1. The screenplay and direction was good.

    2. The music was apt for the timeline.

    3. All characters did their roles perfectly.

    4. Giving equal importance to all characters (almost) 5. The visuals and VFX was just realistic.

NEGATIVES: 1. The climax was dragged slightly 2. Slightly delayed narration

OVERALL: Mani sir and Rahman sir are one of the best combinations ever, their combination always gave their movies some charisma, the same can be said here as well.

Overall it was an amazing film with a lot of suspense and hidden details.

    Eagerly Waiting for PS2!!!

    My opinion
    It's ok

One time watchable Doesn't feel like maniratnam movie Characters choosing are amazing Lag is the most negative in this film Songs are just amazing (ARR magic) Desent screenplay Those who loves historical movie no doubt it worths you

It's an novel based movie So don't compared with bahubali

And must watch movie in theatre only.

Vikram acting is just amazing Karthi acting is not so good.

He just acting like an normal commercial movie.

His old Tamil speaking is not so good.

End of the movie is just 😍 It's definitely wait you to watch 2 part

    Overall It's one time watchable.

Perfect movie to watch with family.

Best period film in Tamil made till now
First of all hats off to Mani Ratnam and his team for pulling off this Epic drama and it is probably the best period film made in Tamil till now!

Somehow felt like ARR's voice did not suit for 'Ponni Nadhi' introductory song and chance could have been given to someone else, but visuals and and cinematography for that song was too good.

Although ARR's bgm music was too good, especially in the climax, music for some of the songs could have been better done, as songs don't sit in your heart and lips for too long.

Dialogues and Screenplay were good, especially witty ones of Vandhiyathevan, hats off to Jeyamohan and Ilango Kumaravel for the same.

Acting wise everyone has done their part fairly well, which contributes to the success of the movie, however acting, dialogue delivery and facial reactions of Karthi, Trisha and Kishore were superb! 👍

Pace wise second half goes very fast, however 20 minutes.before interval was little slow and boring, probably screenplay for that part could have been better done. Last 20 minutes including climax was a visual treat and it sets it up nicely for the interesting sequel! 👍

All said, seriously waiting for the second half due to come in Summer 2023....

It no fun for those who dont have any context about the story
Its difficult to make sense of story or characters clearly due to mismatch of scenes together.

Maybe it can be entertaining for those who were already familiar with the story.

It leaves the audience asking why? To characters choices and actions.

I dont know if the story got lost in translation somewhere, because the point its trying to make is not clear enough.

Characters that seem to popped out of nowhere are suddenly pivotal to the story but audience has no clue why? How?

There just isnt enough info to connect the dots.

There were bunch of flashback scenes that aimed to give some info abt chracters past but camera work was too chaotic.
