whiskeymovie - 16 June 2024 I find it hilarious... That the people giving this one star reviews are the exact people this movie is ripping in. I love that these people are stupid to recognize the irony. That makes me smile, and sad that there are that many idiots out there. Sigh.
This movie, much like every other movie that the aforementioned idiots give a 1 star, is far from one star. It's also not a 9 or 10. It's more a 7, but rounded it up to 8 to combat the stupid.
Billy Loomis was a killer yet people take issue with the fact that he might have cheated on Sydney? Seriously? The stupid, it hurts Us, Precious. He was willing to kill his girlfriend. I'm pretty sure he would have zero compunction cheating on her. Is it a plot device? Yes, but I dont understand why so many people have an issue with it.
I was 20 when the original Scream came out and saw it in the theater. I have seen all of them at this point and I still think Scream 3 is the weakest. This one is good and fun addition to the franchise. People just need to learn to unclench and remember how to have fun again.
brsger - 16 April 2024 Mixed bag. Could have been much better. Quaid is nice, Madison is great. Most characters are dumb, boring, cringe and forgettable.
The over-the-top characters, that are clear clichés and don't take themselves too seriously are the most fun (but die) while the "main" ones are sooo flat, especially Barrera. Also, not scary. Not even 12 year olds would get scared by this. Unfortunately, this movie is obsessed with its franchise. Get ready for EXTREME amounts of meta. Honestly, way too much.
While still somewhat enjoyable, it's too long for its content. No idea how this got (YET ANOTHER) sequel. Oh, no. I know.
Also, the cringiest dialogues and dozens of forced one-liners. Who tf wrote this????
On a technical level, very solid. Nice gore. But should probably be watched while muted.
jack-93791 - 20 January 2024 Pretty good Honestly, I really enjoyed it. The Wes Craven films were way better but it was really good for what it was, and with the experience with this film they'll know what to do and what not to do to make the next film fantastic. Pays amazing homage to the original film and adds some pretty tense scenes to make it interesting. The pacing can be pretty bad at times and the film can sometimes take some dips in quality if its from the acting and some scenes sometimes not achieving what they were going for. Even with those criticisms, if you're a fan of the Scream franchise I think you'll have a good time with this one.
hellholehorror - 4 January 2023 Mostly forgettable This is a sequel. It starts with great promise but quickly becomes tiresome. The opening scene feels like classic Scream (1996). The problem is that it then doubles down on the meta. These films were always about meta, since The Matrix Resurrections (2021) meta has transitioned into annoying and very boring. In the 90s meta was actually a refreshing take and the parody of itself in the first films was actually enjoyable. This takes that enjoyment and kills it dead. I found it really hard to engage with the film, the story and the characters after the excellent opening. The tone and pacing is odd, often feeling no more than fanservice, there are some really misplaced emotional scenes that feel forced into the story. The new characters are mostly forgettable. The returning ones don't have an arc. On the plus side there is some good gore, it looks nice, sounds nice and is well acted. That's not enough to save it from being another dull rehash of old ideas.
Danlbry - 22 December 2022 One of the worst movies I have ever seen I did not expect much before watching, but this movie still managed to make me disappointed. There is literally not a single thing good about this movie. I have never seen a horror movie this boring, literally nothing happened most of the time. The acting might very well be the worst out of everything. Not a single above average performance from the entire cast. Espescially the actors from the older movies looked like they had no idea what they were doing. Even some actors who have shown VERY impressive performances in the past looked like they were here just for a quick paycheck (Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid). The voice acting by the killer might be some of the worst I have ever heard, even your average kids cartoon sounds better. They keep trying to break the fourth wall and be self-aware, but it's done in such a terrible way resulting in so much stupid dialogue, dumb deaths, random references. Even the fight/kill scenes themselves were extremly boring to watch, jumpscares at literally every moment you'd expect and the victims act in such an idiotic manner which is unforgiveable, even for a horror movie. This movie actually seemed more like a silly comedy with random blood and knives.
I can only recommend this movie for one reason: having trouble sleeping and needing something boring to watch to get tired. It's straight up garbage.
jamespurcell-17815 - 17 November 2022 No, Wes Craven's movies were not "waaay" better. I just watched Scream 1, 2, 3, 4, and Scream 2022 this week. I wasn't sure where to start because I kept reading reddit reviews with people talking about their favourite scream movies, and which ones were bad, but eventually I noticed a trend with all these reviews: it's always people who had seen the scream movies 5 or 10 years ago and we're just operating on "nostalgia." But I, dear reader, have seen them all just this week, and they are super fresh in my mind. I can give you helpful information, where others can't (because they saw the movies 5 or 10 years ago and are just going by the "feeling" in their head that they can recall, but they will never tell you that.)
Scream 1: This is a perfect movie. There is absolutely no silliness, no absurd horror tropes, no super strength that makes no sense, no "I just bumped into someone that has been in front of me for 5 minutes" loud noises, none of that. Just horror satire, with a BIG emphasis on horror and a small emphasis on satire, relatively. This movie knows exactly what it's doing at all times. There is no wasted breath, no dragging scenes, everything serves a purpose. A perfect movie. And it holds up completely. I'm telling you, it was just as good when I saw it this week as it was when I saw it 15 years ago. There's no silly special fx that age, or cgi, or anything like that. It's all perfect, like it was made today.
Scream 2: This is where the scream movies first introduce silliness and horror tropes that annoy you and don't make sense. Super strong teleporting killers, loud noises from bumping onto someone that she should have seen or heard for the last 5 minutes, brushing off near fatal wounds like they are nothing, etc. All that gibberish that takes you out of the movie. It only gets worse from here though. However, this is still very much a scream movie, and it has some really effective scenes, like the opening scene. Scenes that are on par with the original. Unfortunately, this is far from a perfect movie.
Scream 3: This is as silly as the series gets. We have now maximized the silly horror tropes. Maximum teleporting super strong killers, maximum people brushing off near fatal wounds like they are nothing, maximum loud noises from trivial events, just maximum eye rolling moments. This movie is the bad joke of the series. Unlike Scream 4 however, this movie does advance the overall story a bit.
Scream 4 Takes itself more seriously then the last which I appreciated, but we are still at maximum teleporting killers, and maximum brushing off near fatal wounds like they are nothing, as well as maximum loud noises from trivial events.
Scream 2022: They did it. They recaptured the magic of the original, even moreso then Scream 2. This isn't a perfect movie either, with annoying horror tropes like teleporting killers, people brushing off near fatal wounds like they are nothing, and loud noises because of trivial events, but it's to such a significantly less degree then it was in scream 3 and 4. And other then those tropes, this is a fantastic movie. Not even close to as good as the first though, due to the horror tropes as well as spotty acting from a few of the new main characters. The original had none of these problems.
Scream 2022 was fun though, and I would re-watch it. It is the best sequel.
Now here's the bad news: you will definitely enjoy Scream 2022 more if you watch Scream 1 and 2 (worth it), 3 and 4 (awful) beforehand. But honestly, I want to burn all copies of screams 3 and 4. They brought the series down.
I will never again re-watch scream 3 and 4. They can go to the wayside for me, forever. If (more like when) I do a scream marathon, it will always and forever be Scream 1, then 2, then Scream 2022, and that's it. In that order.
d_penn - 26 October 2022 Do you like scary movies? Entertaining twist on the franchise. Generally well acted. Tara pulls out every bad stereotype of a teen in distress (spoiler alert embedded), excessive tears, and yips which make almost zero sense as she was being pursued by the killer and was in hiding. Mason Gooding should NEVER play a high school guy again, I mean come on, the guy is already at district attorney age and his is a good looking man not teen. Skeet Ulrich makes numerous cameos with a digitized face lift to make him as young as his original character and the original cast member returning made for a nice twists. Fun and keeps you guessing til the end.
radioflyerpunk - 13 October 2022 User Reviews Attain Meta Singularity It's a really good Scream movie. Made in the right spirit: fun, grisly, loads of postmodern thrills, spills, and winks. Funny while still keeping the horror intact; self reflexive without sacrificing emotion.
I wonder whether people slating the movie for being too knowing/self aware A) have seen *any* previous Scream movies, or B) realise that their misguided fan-rage nudges them beyond irony and into full blown ridiculousness?
Like...you know the stuff in the movie about toxic fandom? Yeah. That. Ya miss it?
Perhaps the next sequel will be a super meta-parody based wholly around IMDb one-star reviews. But then, that might require a self-awareness on the part of weirdly angry IMDb users that they simply do not possess. The franchise might break from the meta meltdown. The very internet itself may never recover.
Imagine it: a movie about online toxic movie fans made in response to toxic movie fans' user reviews of a movie making fun of toxic movie fans.
They could call the next sequel Scream 1/10. And Ghostface's identity? Why, hundreds of incel-adjacent young chaps, of course - collectively apoplectic about misunderstanding the very essence of the franchise that has confused them so thoroughly.
I mean, I'd probably still watch it. I feel that Wes would be proud.
