    Wish is frustrating
I have never seen a movie with so many reviewers trying to analyze made it good or not good and trying to rewrite their version of it to make it better. I think the main reason is Wish is frustrating.

It had all the building blocks of a great move.

Easter eggs and homage to classic Disney films. Check Interesting story premise. Check Endearing, relatable and inspiring main characters. Check Funny true villain. Check Beautiful songs. Check

But somehow all together it didn't land right. People find Moana endearing and Asha irritating. Why? I couldn't even tell you.

I do think people have unreasonable expectations for Disney animations. Unless it has that extra spark of magic that moves our soul, we consider subpar to its legendary predecessors like Frozen, Moana, Encanto, Beauty and the Beast, or Lion King. I doubt the same level of greatness is expected from a Trolls movie. We expect that to just be fun and funny.

Here are a couple of my theories.

    1. In trying to pay homage to classics, the story suffered. Anya's friends are a perfect example. They tried to remind us of the 7 dwarves, but there were just too many of them. I couldn't tell you the name of a single one. I loved the Easter eggs and kept turning to my sister to call out new ones I saw, especially as a huge Disney animation fan. However, certain storylines seemed forced in order to make the Easter eggs work.

    2. They needed musical song writers. Don't get me wrong, the songs were beautiful. I absolutely listened to the soundtrack on repeat in my car afterwards. But they didn't move the story forward the way other musical animation songs do. I couldn't even understand what they were saying. I think it would be difficult for kids to memorize the words to those songs like they do for We Don't Talk About Bruno. "This Wish" is a gorgeous song but doesn't explain what is going on. It sounds like a love song between Anya and Magnifico or is it a love song to wishes? I honestly thought the song was written for something else and they stuck it in this move because they liked it. "I'm a Star" is supposed to explain how her wish caused an actual star to gain life and come to earth to help her. It didn't explain any of that. It was just animals singing about how they are all stars???? So we still have no idea why or how this happened.

    3. The Villain. Magnifico could have been great. Chris Pine as a villain singing about how handsome he is. It has Lost in the Woods vibes and I love it! However, they kept referring to this horrible tragedy he experienced, which was his entire motivation for everything he did. We thought at any moment they would explain his backstory. I kid you not... they never tell you what happened! It seemed like a gaping story hole in the plot and would have been a great opportunity to flesh Magnifico more and understand his perspective.

Overall a good cute and fun movie. My nephew was obsessed with it and listened to the soundtrack on repeat and insisted on buying it the moment he could. I enjoyed it too, especially watching it again and seeing all of the classic animation Easter eggs. But I wouldn't say it's one of the great Disney animation movies. Missing that extra spark that most of their movies have.

It kills me to say it because I watched all the behind the scenes documentaries on making it and know the writers, song writers, animators, directors, actors, etc... gave everything they had into trying to make the best movie possible for us. I still tip my hat off to them!

    Magnifico: The worst Disney VIllain
Oh my, Disney has absolutely ruined themselves on their big 100th Anniversary. Their new movie Wish is supposed to be a way to show how much they have grown over the years. Instead, Wish shows what makes Disney movies bland and just plain bad. Speaking though of what makes Disney good is their famous villains. They are menacing, cool, and made of pure bad intention. Hades will still be my favorite villain. King Magnifico though from Wish is so bad I don't even know where to start with him.

(Warning: There is spoilers ahead. But you should probably read since I am giving you reasons why to avoid this dumpster fire of a movie)

There are so many reasons why Magnifico is bad. But if I wanted to fully explain, I would be here for hours. Instead here is a bulleted list for what makes KIng Magnifico the king of bad Disney villains.

    1. To be honest he isn't even evil, but instead a guy just watching out for his people. He literally is only watching out for wishes with evil intentions. The evil book though just makes it that so he is evil. Clearly just to rushfully move the plot

    2. "This is the Thanks I Get" has to be the worst villain song of Disney. It sounds like a Kidz Bop song generated by AI. For the visuals though, it looks like he is singing in a blurry void of blue and grey.

    3. He has such confusing intentions in the movie. Why would he want a star that only makes animals sing and fly when he literally can already grant actual wishes. It feels like he is just getting a small upgrade in a game he is already too good at.

Those were just 3 examples, but I know there are many more. Anyways have a nice day and please avoid Wish. It's probably for your own good!
