anetanetanet - 24 April 2024 Waste of time A trial to make a historic drama which ended up being too modernised , too predictable, with too many cliche moments. There are way too many scenes in the movie where one thinks " oh, come on, seriously?". Main character ( Abigail Cowen) is acting rather poor...it was almost irritating to see her in some scenes. Tom Lewis is also not that good...of course, it might be just a result of poor plot and screenplay, who knows. But I feel a little like I wasted my time. It's definitely far from reaching the level of some other love stories like " The notebook " or " One day". If you are looking for a high quality love movie, this is definitely not the one..
posti-215-231550 - 16 January 2024 A simple story told movingly This is in some ways a very simple story, and yes, the bad guys are bad and the good guys good for the most part (it's all fairly black and white). But Michael (Tom Lewis) is somehow completely convincing as the almost naive young man who has faith that the power of love can transform bitter, cynical and jaded - but nonetheless beautiful - young prostitute Angel.
Angel's story is told harrowingly but drives home the message of how completely powerless women were until around 100 years ago, and how dependent they were on the men around them (good and bad), before the era of a welfare system or benefits.
It's a testament to the writing, acting and directing that this is not just another 2-dimensional Hallmark-style movie, but I did become engrossed and invested, and the character development, along with the various relationships, was believable and well drawn.
Definitely not for kids, more because of the harshness of the story than anything else, but I really enjoyed "Redeeming Love".
Migsell - 7 October 2023 Ok...but I have not read the book that this movie is made from. It is a Great story, but I'm left with a feeling that it is not very well told in this movie. There could be so much more to the carecters, but I suppose they had to cut it short not to end up with a very long movie or a couple of episodes. Another time then? Just an idea.
I don't like the preaching like and bibel stuff in this movie, but gladly it didn't get too severe. I just did not expect it, and it seem like the tried a bit too hard to incorporate a religious theme to the movie - but then it might be from the book.
Too much nudity is mentioned in other reviews - but don't worry , it does not go beyond showing some stomack skin, some kissing and very soft love scenes.
ChrisinDesMoines - 7 October 2022 We need more movies like this My review is probably going to trigger a lot of believers and for that I'm truly sorry. I enjoyed this movie and believe that we need more movies like this one. Whether we like it or not Hollywood has a lot of influence in the culture and we need more films to counter worldly views and this movie does it so well.
Inspired by the Biblical story of Gomer and Hosea, its set in the American west shortly prior to the Civil War and told from "Gomers" perspective. While it does contain some pretty steamy scenes that many would consider softcore porn I think that those who are critical miss the point of showing them in the movie.
Angel is truly broken in the movie and it's only due to being shown unconditional love that she begins to see how broken that she is and this movie does a great job of showing that no matter how depraved we become God does offer his unconditional love and that through him we can have a better more fulfilling life.
niciemurphy - 6 September 2022 Loved every bit of it I'm a sucker for a good love story and this one kept me guessing more than most. Love stories all tend have a formula and this one was better than most. The heroine was believable in her suppressed emotional status; not ever wanting to let feelings cloud her reality. The star of the film in my eyes was newcomer Tom Lewis. His lovely smile and charm won me over first scene! (Full swoon!) And the whole movie became a guessing game over when will she finally see what he's made of? When will she finally open herself up to this genuine soul who want the best for her. I enjoyed God interwoven through the film. Sometimes life isn't just happenstance and this undercurrent didn't feel like they were pressing religion, just that there is a bit of mystery sometimes in how things pan out. I enjoyed this film from beginning to end. The only parts that were hard to swallow were the bringing to light the abuse that women and children endure even to this day. Hard pills to swallow but I'm glad they did it justice. Excellent.
