Justifies its existence after Andy Serkis' epic Planet of the Apes trilogy.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set several years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes(2011), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes(2014) & War for the Planet of the Apes(2017). A long time after Caesar's rule, a young ape named Noa(Owen Teague), goes on a quest that will make him question everything he knows about the history of humans & apes. Soon, Noa will have to make tough decisions, that will define the future of both apes & humans.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a superb film. Director Wes Ball has ably taken over this iconic franchise, from previous director Matt Reeves. I was definitely skeptical when I heard we were getting another Planet of the Apes movie, after Andy Serkis' trilogy had a perfect conclusion. However, this film has a great story & is the logical next chapter in this franchise. The action set pieces are fantastic. The visual effects are mind-blowing, especially the motion capture technology that seamlessly turns human actors into apes. Owen Teague is spectacular as Noa. Freya Allen is phenomenal as Nova/Mae. Kevin Durand is outstanding as Proximus Caesar. Peter Macon is awesome as Raka. The supporting cast is excellent. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a must watch for fans of this franchise. I'm actually looking forward to another movie with the same cast, in the long-running Planet of the Apes franchise.

    What Star Wars should do...
This movie is a masterclass on how to do a legacy sequel DONE RIGHT.

You use a simple story with complex themes and characters. All that while establishing the new and respecting the old.

This time our protagonist is Noa, an Ape thats even younger than Ceaser was in Rise.

If I had to combine, I would say this film feels like a combination of Apocalyoto + The Green Knight. (Theres a lot of walking, horse riding, jungle settings, evil leaders, empires and themes of religion) Its not as dark as War but it is as mature. This is a fantastic movie. Not a cash grab, you can tell a lot of care went into this. Also, the CGI here is the best out of all four films.

An introduction to a new saga, which can improve, and significantly so.
Another good Planet of the Apes movie, but just good. This fourth film in the anthology is a mid-story film, almost like an introduction to a saga that is yet to come. Taking place several years after the first film (the exact period is not provided), it manages to convey an interesting sense of continuity, proposing ideas of legacy and an almost messianic vision for Caesar. The new characters are convincing, although I didn't particularly enjoy the human storyline. The CGI is great, flawless, although it doesn't seem to have seen a significant improvement in quality since the last film, which was released seven years ago. Nevertheless, what was great remains great. It's a good film, with good action scenes and interesting new characters. The feeling that remains is that everything was an introduction, a presentation of the world, characters, and context for the upcoming films, somewhat similar to what recently occurred in "Dune 1". But the film is still good, enjoyable, and exciting.
