natscay - 24 March 2024 A Disturbing Thriller that Keeps You Guessing Gripping psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The film follows the unsettling story of a couple who adopts a mysterious young girl named Esther. As the plot unfolds, layers of deception and suspense are gradually unveiled, leading to an unexpected and chilling conclusion.
The film's strength lies in its well-crafted suspense and the stellar performances of its cast. (Lead actor/actress) delivers a haunting portrayal of a troubled child whose innocence may be just a facade, keeping the audience guessing about her true nature until the very end. (Other actors/actresses) also shine in their roles, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.
pavheeo - 26 October 2023 Inspired by a TRUE Story, Excellent Actors This movie is inspired by the true story of Barbora Skyrlova. I won't go into it because I don't want to spoil the movie, but this story is completely different than hers in most ways. I love the actors Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga so that makes the movie very watchable. The youngest girl is adorable. The child actors in this film are incredibly talented. The director does a great job building up the suspense and the cinematography is realistic, moody and extremely well done. Even though this movie is from 2009 it holds up very well. People that have said bad things about the film being unrealistic don't seem to be aware of the fact it's based on a true story. As soon as I started watching it, I realized that it mirrored something that I had seen in the news. Definitely worth watching if you are looking for a suspenseful movie.
Theo-99610 - 4 July 2023 Cool So, right off the start, I have a small little question, am I supposed to be on the family's side? Because they were treating Esther like doggy doo doo. I hated the little boy, for one, why are you bullying your adopted sister in school? And I hated the mom, she was an overreacting (female dog), why adopt a kid, then blame her for all of your problems. The little girl was awesome, she helped her adopted sister through almost everything, loved her. The dad was okay, not really in the movie. And now Esther, she had every right to do all the stuff she did, I'm fully on her side, she was bullied and tormented, like, were we not supposed to be on her side? Lovely movie, not very scary, but still gave me chills.
Shreyansh-Shukla - 30 October 2022 A great thriller Orphan is a thriller that does the job that most horror movies fail to do. As the movie forwards you start to wonder what exactly is the antagonist going to do next. It's packed with a lot of Mystery and plot twists really catch you off guard. The movie does start to feel a bit neutral by the middle and feels like a bit vanilla of the horror category as it doesn't have typical jump scares and concepts but still leaves you wanting to know what exactly is the deal here.
The movie is made pretty well, generally saying its a solid 8/10. For me personally it felt like a very slow in house and conserved story with very limited characters. Overall as a horror thriller to get going on a nigh out, it's a good recommendation. (In my personal view it felt like 6/10, but speaking for the movie as content, it's a good 8/10 for entertainment)
olcayozfirat - 7 September 2022 An annoying movie It's a frustrating horror movie from 2009. You'd be surprised at who you'll be pissed off at in the movie. A couple has two children. The third child died at birth. The woman who already has 2 beautiful children wants to adopt a child to get into trouble. They see a girl in an orphanage and bring her home. The girl is abnormal in every way. This girl is giving this family a nightmare. The woman's husband is constantly protecting this girl against his wife. Horror and suspense elements are used well in the movie. If it is to be watched as a family, there are scenes with sexuality from time to time. The second movie was shot using many elements from this movie.
ropelawshiel - 24 August 2022 One of the best I would put this into the top 10 thrillers of the last decade. I have watched it three times, and it always surprises me. (I never remember all the plot) usually two or three-year gap. Watching the new prequel made me re-watch-great acting, especially by the children. Well written does all the tropes well. The prequel is great fun, if a little silly, but well worth a watch; if you love a taut thriller, this is a fun ride, highly recommended.
