Kitahito - 25 November 2023 -Hey mr. witcher, why are you herding 300 mutant monsters into the woods, sir? It's almost a general rule of thumb that anything Netflix touches turns into a diluted excrement. This is no different with the Witcher frenchise (or what's left of it), which has once again been defiled. For example, in The Wolf's Nightmare, we learn that there is indeed something behind the hate campaigns and crimes that discriminate against certain groups of people! There's no rust when the wind isn't blowing, is there! They deserved it, definitely! I suppose the same noble logic could be applied to the most beautiful moments of antisemitism, slavery or centuries of oppression of women. Hey, everything for my precious narrative symmetry! Surely they had their very legitimate and logistically advantageous reasons, right Netflix? Or is that not what we play? Of course, we know that for enough profit, they wouldn't have a problem with that either...
monuthube - 31 July 2022 The perfect deserving prequel film for Geralt's mentor Nightmare of the Wolf is a good anime film from Netflix, which explores Geralt's mentor, Vesemir. It's a life-adventure story of Vesemir and how he became the Witcher, a journey from local servant to professional monster hunter (The Witcher). And just like every other life-adventure story our main character had a mentor who inspired Vesemir to become the Witcher. The only thing that was a little problematic was the pace of the film, which is really very fast and very quickly completes 1½ hr but without losing interest.
I liked the animation quality, some people also compared it with Castlevania which is also Netflix's original anime series. And the action scenes are great, as expected to have in the Witcher universe and that was one of the most needed things like it also showed a small part of monster hunting.
This anime never gives much time to other characters and only focuses on a single character's journey. Maybe it was the creator's choice as they are expecting the audience to watch The Witcher series and that's good, but still at least it could be much better if the antagonist is given a little more depth which is why it feels like a quick flashback story. That's why it can be confusing for the audience who didn't watch the main series, which explores and focuses on side characters that help in world-building and is highly recommended. Because of the fast pace, it lacks emotional depth, like when it is most needed at the end of the story of the loss of someone close to him and the death of monsters (which is shown very clearly in the series). As said for Witcher fans who had watched the main series, expectations are high.
There is one interesting thing that it has a small romantic story, between Illyana and Vesemir. It had given the needed time to feel it.
If you like watching life-adventure-journey type films then this is for you, also if you want to watch something new, interesting like action stuff. And if you are a fantasy fiction fan like me then you have to watch this.
For those who had watched the main series 'The Witcher' this is a highly recommended and must-watch film, make sure to watch it as you had Vesemir's character in season 2 and definitely wanted to know how he is like this. And also the Witcher fans there is a very little surprise for you which you will notice in the climax scene, your very favorite character of the Witcher series.
Dart- - 5 January 2022 Better than the real witcher netflix serie It's entertaining and way better than the real witcher netflix serie, especially considering how bad was the season 2.
If you are a witcher fan, you will for sure like it.
reginevogl - 5 December 2021 Sadly it was bad Why was it terrible?
1. One-dimensional side characters: All main characters are white and (probably heterosexual). Side-characters have basically no character details despite their identity markers like blackness or queerness. They die. It's not like we haven't seen enough black families and gay characters being brutally murdered, right? Thanks for that (irony)
2. Do the producers not understand freckles? It's not like you have them as a child and then they magically disappear when you become an adult. They're for life. I know.
3. Totally necessary to show us Vesemirs childhood cause it totally explains his character, like couldn't you make a better story instead of convoluting the plot unnecessarily with terrible child voice actors, stiff dialogues and unrealistic battle sequences (Can witchers fly? Why doesn't Geralt fly? Did you think it looked cool when Vesemir killed those flying monsters? Why did you think it looked cool?)
4. Why didn't you make Vesemir gay instead of the side-character? I know it would have been a bolt choice but you are already changing around with canon, why not do it in a way to actually improve the story? I mean, it's nice to show a young looking witcher being in love with his aged childhood sweetheart, but it's just not as cool as a gay hunky witcher.
5. Why make the Elves look so weird? Why? WHY? I don't get it. They are the other/subaltern in the the-witcher-universe and you make them look so weird (reminds me of other colonial and racist caricatures). That felt very ill thought out to me.
6. The title is terrible. It already implies a plot twist. Super foreseeable. And I mean all of the plot twists. Like the witch talking about another gullible witch who was killed by a witcher. Well who's mother could that be? Really? Opps my mentor did something morally wrong. Opps I killed my childhood sweetheart.
I am not going to continue although their is a lot more to say. This outcome makes me sad, because I did in fact enjoy the witcher (Calanthe and Yennefer) although it was flawed and did have some questionable acting (Ciri and some side characters). But this felt unfinished and just not thought through (who are your writers?)
