When Mr Grey met with Dracula
It's like fifty shades of grey hooks up with Dracula...Slowly paced like a romantic flick about the aristoctats woeing a courtisan with slight doses of jump scare and gothic ambience during first hour and then off with a grotesque show and a jordan peele recipe often used, but being a trend since Get Out There is a another film by the same name (karyn Kusama 2015) way crazier than this slow burn 1st half that builds up anticipation yet finally "not making it" . A descent watch never the less Sadly, it would be better paced and better written for the screen, if it were either a Tarantino, or a MCU flick.

    Could've been better
Been miss a good vampire thriller/romance. Was thinking 'ohh the next underworld' . But noooo. The ending was absolutely butchered and awful. And what was this sad little sister wives cult. They all died !. I wanted more of the story line with Thomas Doherty. What was this. It could've been so much better with how it started. The story line went down personally on my opinion. Couldn't deal with that disappointing ending. We need a good vampire trilogy again. It's been ages. Thomas Doherty; your part was great . Not the ending it ever deserved. And how. HOW. I cannot wrap my mind around how awful the ending was.

    Could have been better...
Disappointing, thought this was going to be a lot better but it's not, just glad I didn't pay to watch it. Should have just left the location as America and not try to pass it off as England. First the accents were clearly put on, the "mansion" is nothing I've ever seen in England, and when you turn a light switch on, it goes down not up... I've never known anyone who shortens "Walter" to Walt apart from our cousins over the pond.

So apart from the above I did watch it just to see how it panned out. Guessing what was going to happen was pretty easy, but on the plus side there were a couple of jumpy bits but few and far between.

    Why the bad reviews?
If a movie stinks, I will say so. But the acting was good, the story was good, and the pacing was good. The special effects were mediocre, but the atmosphere was great. Will it win any awards? I doubt it. But the low rating is not worthy of the movie.

So, to give a 1/10 for such a film, and then turn around and say something good about it? That makes no sense. Why bother even giving a rating with your review? My idea is to watch it yourself and see for yourself.

I did find one scene laughable towards the end. Something to do with height differences and objects that would probably not be the best to have in a house like that. You will see. Or not if you choose not to watch.

"Get Out" of my coffin! (Spoilers)
This movie is what happens when a writer watches Dracula and Get Out simultaneously. There are very similar storylines. A young, dark skinned person who is artistically inclined is brought into a world of older, white aristocratics under false pretenses.

In both stories the young victim is needed by the rich cult to further their cause. Both victims also have a friend back home who acts as comic relief and warns them not to trust the cult.

Both victims escape by stabbing the main antagonist with a decoration and start a fire to burn down the house where they were trapped.

There are other similarities including visuals and tone but those are the highlights. This was a decent Dracula movie but a little too much like Get Out.

    Really disappointing
A young black woman who is the great grand daughter of a illegitimate son of a woman who was to marry a vampire cause of her family's pact with him. When that woman is dead they find the great granddaughter to marry off to to the vampire.. and the vampire is seemingly handsome and rich but of course he's a creepy gaslighting freak with two sister wives already.. the main girls whole back story doesn't add up and other then being pretty she's very dislikable, I would've only felt bad for her best friend if she'd not made it out. The best friend also being the only comic relief in the movie. This movie sucked and I'd only recommend to show writers what not to do...but it did feature a cool mansion.

Just skip to the last 20 minutes.
The first 3/4 of this movie is a pure expression of dullness and unoriginality. The boring cast, the worn out scare tactics, the flat and lifeless dialogue and on and on it goes. The ending was somewhat satisfying and there were elements of the score that I liked, anddddddd the chic from Game of Thrones is hot. Three stars for that alone. Bottom line: I would skip this one. Accept The Invitation that was directed by Karyn Kusama instead. A million times better than this wannabe vampire movie. Or go watch a real vampire film, like Fright Night (80's version) or the Swedish version of Let the Right One In, etc.

    it was mid at best
I wanted to like this movie but this it is sadly another cliche vampire romance moonlighting as horror. It was hard to watch a main character so naive and unaware of her surrounding and so eager to find family that she walked into a clearly deceptive plan. The 5/10 rating is largely influenced by the amazing supporting actress in Courtney Taylor who very much was akin to TSA bae in Get Out who provided great comedic relief even when unseen on screen. I really hoped to see more of her throughout the movie as the main character was simply hard to watch despite the well done job at acting the role, which I guess is another positive. The acting itself was at least solid even given the underwhelming script, a script that was too long I might add. The movie dragged and I certainly wanted it to be over much sooner than it actually was. The pacing was extremely slow which stunted what could have potentially been a good build but even that would likely have been washed out by the mediocre ending. I mean the fight scenes were a tragedy and the final death seemed unreal even for a science fiction movie. Needless to say its watchable but I do not particularly recommend so proceed with caution.

beware of people who appear suddenly
Out of the blue, evie meets a cousin she didn't know she had, and right off, gets invited to a wedding in europe. Everyone is so extra nice, at least at first. Then evie starts to notice things that are a bit off. And the nights are even more strange than the days. Lots of dark scenes, locked rooms. She can't tell when they are kidding around and when they are serious. But then things take a strange, dangerous turn. It's mostly good, if predictable. A few modern bits added to an old story. At first she was suspicious of someone who just pops up out of no-where like that, as we all would be. Later, she seems to forget to keep her guard up, and runs into trouble. It's okay.... directed by jessica thompson. Showing on the netflix.

Great movie spoiled by a safe and cliché ending.
Thomas Doherty was astoundingly good in this role! He slayed it! I honestly loved the movie until the ending. The development of the characters was excellent and the cinematography and makeup was excellent too. I honestly haven't been as disappointed by an ending since the I Am Legend (theatrical release) ending. I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally written as a different ending and someone in the studio said "no we can't make that, it'll be offensive. We will get canceled." So they rewrote a really great script into 2022 politically safe garbage script. I'd recommend watching the first 90 minutes then turning it off and imagining your own ending. They destroyed what could've been a very good movie on the level of Bram Stoker's Dracula. So sad.
