Tried to like it but found it boring and forgettable
In the Heights is a 2021 musical drama starring Anthony Ramos and Stephaine Beatriz. Written by Lin Manual Miranda and directed by Jon Liu, the story centers on a variety of characters living in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, on the northern tip of Manhattan. At the center of the show is Usnavi(Ramos), a bodega owner who looks after the aging Cuban lady next door, dreams for the gorgeous girl working in the neighboring beauty salon along with winning the lottery and escaping to the shores of his native Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, Nina(Beatriz), a childhood friend of Usnavi's, has returned to the neighborhood from her first year at college with surprising news for her parents, who have spent their life savings on building a better life for their daughter. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of the close-knit neighborhood get a dose of what it means to be home.

Overall I found this movie very boring. The songs are so loud they'd nearly burst your ear canals, also they are forgettable. The acting was grand and the cinematography was good too. But as a fan of musicals this one wasn't for me.

    Heights. On 11. Non Stop
I like that it's a musical about hope. If it's possible, it's almost too hopeful for me...every number becoming bombastic - to the point that it wears you out over the 2.5 hours.

    Fun Time For Sure!
Heights is a super fun time and it's very exciting to see some Hamilton pros back together again.

This movie has everything: 1. Stunning color design 2. Ambitious dance numbers 3. Lin-Manuel Miranda selling snow cones from a street cart

    Standout performances:
    • Anthony Ramos proves here that he can carry the emotional weight of the movie while seamlessly nailing every musical number.

    • Olga Merediz shines throughout this movie and was honestly my favorite character. Her moment at the end of the second act might be my favorite part of the whole film.

    • I was super shocked to see Stephanie Beatriz here, and I was very impressed with her. I only know her from Brooklyn 99, so seeing what she was able to do in the movie really gave me a fresh view of her!

This is a fun movie night for the family. Check it out!
