asgarkamora - 29 June 2024 Boring and disjointed After watching this, I could not sleep. Idris fighting a Lion probaby made with power point. The story from his ex to his kids and the dodgy uncle kept mixing up.
Complete waste of time.
You need to watch Ghost and the Darkness. I think there is no better Lion movie than that.
I mean going for a walk outside when the Rabid lion is about. Also looking for car keys in the dark was hilarious, even the Lion was bemused.
Then also the poacher story didn't add up.
Not sure if this movie was made in the jungle or studio but very disappointed.
Watch this movie when you are with lots of friends so you can have a good laugh.
t4art - 2 May 2024 Not Big Movie but nice I watched this movie recently, it's a movie about a struggle for survival with a family touch about the father-son relationship.
I liked the long single scene style in many of the scenes in the movie and sometimes there are scenes with a lot of detail.
It wasn't a strong but enjoyable movie for an evening, and I don't think I'll be watching it again in the future.
The soundtrack is mediocre, the visual effects are rather good, and the acting performance I find mediocre from an exceptional actor like Idris Elba.
The duration of the movie is quite sufficient for the story and you don't need to know other details about the characters.
I wish there was more depth and drama around the characters and the fishermen and not just a passing mention.
mgabel-66589 - 12 March 2024 Yeah, let's leave every door and window open at poachers motel! Over all, not too bad. That's why the 5 rating I gave.
Just the stupid screenwriter ideocracies. I mean stabbing the Lion once with a trank worked but instead of trying a second time, let's just leave the trank gun behind!
Then, you leave a bunch of poachers rifles behind....
Then when escaping and finding the poacher hostel, let's leave every entrance we went into, open! WTF!
Then, you get mauled by a crazy Lion for over 2 minutes, whole the same Lion killed 10 poachers with rifles in 22 seconds, and you end up with superficial injuries and only hafta use a crutch.
Sorry, I'm no member of PETA,but I was rooting for the Lion the entire movie.
Certainly nowhere near realistic.
And yeah, the cgi Lion only gets a 3 outta 5.
MickyG333 - 10 December 2023 I've seen worse 6.8 stars.
Here's how I rate movies. Firstly: is it entertaining? That is the main factor for me. This film is not boring, and yes, there are a whole bunch of CGI blunders. The kids are annoying as can be, but that's to be expected in a family thriller. This is basically a horror movie, but instead of a macabre theme featuring a murderous ghoul on the prowl, it's a rampaging Lion on the hunt for the evil poachers. Unfortunately, Mr. Lion can't distinguish between poachers and innocents, so father and two daughters get caught in the mix.
What stands out in 'Beast'? Again, not much, but it's somewhat entertaining and it's thrilling. We have the aspect of poachers and how the innocent main characters detest them. We find out that the Uncle is an anti-poacher. What is an anti-poacher you ask? Look it up, or watch this to see that side of the story. It's interesting, it makes me look at the Uncle through a different lens. Will we pass jugement? It depends. If you are a woke animal activist, the answer is yes.
brianhenneman-88147 - 31 December 2022 Just one stupid decision after another. I just don't think rational people would make the same series of ridiculous, asinine, foolish, idiotic decisions these clowns made in dealing with the lion. It boggles the mind, it's almost like they wanted to die. I really wanted to like this movie, but the amount of incompetence just prevented me from suspending disbelief. I don't normally say stuff like this, but after about 30 minutes I was cheering for the lion. This movie really isn't worth your time. I'm surprised Idris Elba would sign onto such a cornball flick like this. I thought he had higher standards than this. CGI was pretty good.
Bryyycers - 13 December 2022 Zero Stars This film does not deserve a rating, as it has no substance. One would think this would be a thriller of an animal stalking prey such as Jaws, but it almost has nothing in common with such a theme. This is a movie about irrational human beings making a lot of noise and almost never stopping, the characters just keep ranting on and on with nothing of meaning ever being said. It's actually annoying. Warning to anyone that has the ability to think, this is not your movie. Second, the video game Lion just randomly shows up doing whatever, when ever. No structure to this film at all. Really just felt like a movie about hysterical mentally lacking people flapping their arms around waiting for an asylum. Go watch Jaws, or the based on actual events film Ghost in the Darkness about an actual Lion stalking it's prey and killing a village if you want to see it done a multitude of times better.
brienicoleallio - 28 November 2022 How can you not have an anti-poacher sentiment?!! How on earth do you do this film without any anti
at the end?! What a phenomenal disgrace. It is horrifying
that you did this film without a psa tag highlighting conservation efforts in the area. Shane on you! What a missed opportunity to raise awareness and an embarrassment on your film! There are so many worthy nonprofits doing amazing conservation efforts throughout Africa and you chose to highlight NONE?!!!! SHAMEFUL. Hope all of you sleep well at night.

QueenoftheGoons - 14 November 2022 Its no Ghost &the Darkness I was hoping this was a loose remake to ghost 7 the darkness though that movie will never be beat. It seems lions are just as stupid as deer. Just stand there while they are killed. Should be more rogue animals to put us in our place. The movie was a bit slow. I like Idris he did very well. The kids were annoying and annoying to the point you cringed every time one of the brats opened its mouth. The kids were total brats. Annoying. But like all animal beastie films its just an animal. At the end of the day that's all it is. We are still at the top of the food chain. Animals still fear fire and still can't use a gun.
timmyhollywood - 1 November 2022 Surprisingly good I have no idea why this has such a low rating and what the negative reviews say, but it's probably all grievances about how lions are supposed to act, or some character decisions a viewer disagrees with.
I thought this was quite good. The camera movement in particular is very captivating - long tracking shots with the steadicam hold your attention and draw you deeper into the scene.
The acting is very believable. The story is nothing new, but what is, these days. Still, as a widower with two daughters, the father having tension with the older daughter, it works. It's not overdone or hokey, but subtle.
The CGI is mostly amazing. I mean, really astonishing to have two lions appear to nuzzle and hug Sharlto Copley near the beginning, and then the big scene at the end. Truly impressive, some of the best animal CGI I've seen yet.
The pacing was good, nothing seemed too drawn out. It wasn't completely predictable, just a well worn formula, and I thought they did a bang up job.
