Was not expecting to weep so hard.
I went into this thinking "oh a sweet fantasy movie and I always love mamoa" Let me tell you that I just wept my eyes out harder than I have in a while. On the surface. Yes, this is a family friendly movie, with silly and light-hearted aspects, and yes it's fantasy, and from a child's perspective... But dreams are something that we all experience (sometimes avoid) and I think this movie and the director did an excellent job at striking the heart through them. The underlying meaningfulness of what it's like to experience grief and the dreams that come after grief, The visits with loved ones that slowly fade, the desire to stop dreaming and avoid the hard experiences within them. This movie allowed so much deep emotions to be met in me as a viewer, and I'm grateful it exists. One that I will show other people while awkwardly staring at them with a big grin on my face hoping they feel as strongly as I have while watching it.

    Not My Kind of Movie...But....
For me, this is not a movie I would generally seek out at all.

I don't like storybook movies. Hated Harry Potter so much. These phantasmagorical movies with cute little stuffed animals that come alive and all kinds of fantasy CGI.

Further, I don't really like movies with kids as the central point. As a rule, I don't like kid actors at all.

So I got roped into watching this movie with family.

    Well, guess what?

It's actually a good movie! Surprise to me. It's a decent story with a kid who isnt annoying and some characters that are fun to watch.

Give it a try. You might be surprisd like I was!

    Inventive and Nostalgic
It's as though someone watched AI and thought the catastrophe of a Kubrick/Spielberg mashup was a successful and workable concept - and then, somehow, made it work.

The kid: likable and relatable, especially considering the trauma The Dream Momoa: Inventive, delightfully gross and fun, with heart and heartbreak Uncle: so believably awkward and pulls at the heartstrings at his attempts to relate Dreamland: some uninventive cliches but DreamCop channeled some serious Pam Grier action and was sensitive and stern Story was a journey worth taking.

Exploring the world of dreams and making it something the waking world can relate to is always a challenge, but the character development from the main to the tertiary is subtly and expertly done that anyone can find themselves represented in the story. The quest to reconcile Flip, the metaphor to connect the two in life and in dream regardless of whatever "reality" imposes, is beautifully done.

    Soooo Gooood!!
So refreshing. Non stop fun. Such an original idea. Great acting, great action and fun for the whole family. Well, I am an adult, but I assume the kiddos will love it too. I'm a science fiction nerd and this was very unique, even compared to a big Marvel or Star Wars film. Probably the best film for this genre since Zathura. Definitely in the top 10 for the year. Jason Mamoa was stellar. Really showed a whole new level of acting he can perform. Jason is seriously talented. Incredibly written and produced. So many unique CGI/action scenes. I love it because it is so original it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

    Amazing dream
It was impressive that the nightmare was expressed in black Octopus. And I kept the tension until the end, I thought would end with sadding, but fortunately, it ended with happy ending. So I thought it was a relief.

A Beautiful and Magical adventure .....
I don't think you would actually regret watching this with your family, it is beautifully executed, has a refreshing concept, not at all corny, both emotional and funny. Characters are really likeable and not annoying. I was hoping for a little more back story into phil's character and there is no explanation as to how he was able to stay in a dream state and not really wake up. It is just vaguely mentioned but that is the only part I think many would find difficult to understand, only if you like to obsess over the tiny details in movie. Beautiful easter eggs hidden all throughout the movie good luck finding them.

    1. Concept - 4.5/5 (Really refreshing and a fun plot).

    2. Special Effects- 5/5 (Absolutely beautiful and "dreamy")

    What a fantastic film.
I really enjoyed it from start to finish, the effects were amazing and the acting from everyone was excellent, especially the young girl, she reminded me of a cross between a young Saoirse Ronan and Jenna Malone, the young girl from Contact, and what a great actress she is going to be.

I like Jason Momoa as an actor he's entertaining and very good at what he does but sometimes I feel he overacts, like in parts of this film I kept thinking he was over doing it a bit, or maybe that's what the director called for?

I'm a big dreamer myself, I dream almost every night and sometimes more than once, I also remember a lot of them so I found this fascinating.

I've seen a few negative reviews to this little gem, so I ask people, why?

How can anyone not be entertained by such a beautiful film? Just enjoy it fgs.

I always know when I've enjoyed a film because I feel emersed in it, I lose track of time and I don't want it to end.

    What is the Lighthouse for?
Nemo (Marlow Barkley) lives with her Dad (Kyle Chandler) in a lighthouse. He home schools her and they have a great relationship. She knows how to run the place. She travels off in her dreams to Slumberland. Her dad tells her fanciful stories about his partner Flip. During a storm her dad ventures out to help a boat and never returns. Nemo goes to the city to live with her uncle (Chris O'Dowd) a manufacturer of door knobs. She is hating life and discover a dream world with Flip (Jason Momoa) who first comes across like Beetlejuice. They become partners looking for the elusive wishing pearls protected by nightmares.

Entertaining film, mostly for kids. Based on the characters of Winsor McCay.
