frexxo - 4 May 2024 A Teen Comedy with a Modern Twist: A Nostalgic and Fresh Take on Revenge "Do Revenge" is a 2022 film that captures the essence of classic teen comedies like "Clueless," "Mean Girls," and "10 Things I Hate About You," but with a fresh, modern twist. It's colorful, entertaining, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Camila Mendes shines in her role, supported by a strong cast that brings vibrancy and humor to the story.
The film balances comedy with social commentary, exploring themes like toxic masculinity and fake feminism. While it's meant to be light-hearted, there are moments of surprising depth and unexpected plot twists that keep the story engaging. The visual aesthetics and soundtrack evoke a sense of nostalgia, blending the best of the late '90s and early 2000s with a contemporary edge.
tabletopcouchpotato - 22 July 2023 Amazing comedy This movie totally lives up to the expectations of the genre and goes much further.
It was so much fun with so many outrageous plot turns. The acting is good, the costuming is amazing, and most of all, the movie is just really really fun. Maya Hawke and Camilla Mendes are great and they have excellent chemistry. The writing is clever, the dialogue is playful.
It is much better than the typical Netflix teen movie and lives up to the more iconic comedies of the 2000s, like Mean Girls and Clueless. If you want to watch a fun movie with a ridiculous plot, this is great movie to watch. Would highly recommend!
Cookiejar55 - 10 February 2023 Really fun watch Camilla is fantastic in this film, I loved all the plot twists and the fun atmosphere.
A lot of things were relevant to our times such as leaked videos, gossip and toxicity in school. It is successfully reminiscent of high school movie classics like Easy A. I love how it blended so many cliche 90s teen movies together, it worked well.
However, I did find that it really needed an edit for time though, 2Hrs is sooooo long to be engaged in the camp.
I'm trying to wrap my head around complaints about 'wokeness' (what a weaponized word). I'm an unbothered millennial, as long as the actors are decent and the story is fun I don't care what their background or orientation is, who has time for this nitpicking anyway ?
floppylobster-86-283328 - 25 December 2022 Everything is good but somehow it still doesn't work Well acted, sharp script, well cast, but poorly structured. There's an obvious reference to Strangers on a Train but unlike that film, which commits to its premise and is hugely engaging because it, this one dances around it, takes unesscessarily long time to set things up. Without that focus it lacks energy.
It's perfectly watchable and much better than a lot of the other crap out right now (especially in this genre), but falls well short of the films that obviously inspired it.
Probably trimming half an hour from it would have helped a lot. The time spent setting up relationships and ticking boxes could have been cut as it all comes across anyway and without it the film would have had more forward momentum.
Anyway, not terrible, but lacking 'narrative thrust'.
mrashtastic89 - 11 November 2022 I'd like revenge on whoever made this Do Revenge is legitimately terrible, I am vengeful now, I would like to exact revenge on whatever incompetent bumbling Netflix employee allowed this piece of garbage to be released to the public, wow, I thought 2017's The Outcasts was bad, this makes that film look like a masterpiece.
Do Revenge does what no movie should, it actually manages to have absolutely no likeable characters in the entire thing, it's not often I watch a movie where that happens, but it truly is the case here, wow, every character in this film is awful, I would like to punch them all in the face, and it also has one of the worst Netflix villains I've seen so far this decade.
I'm gonna give Do Revenge a D-
mariamshehab - 26 October 2022 I dont know how to feel about this movie. I have a love/hate relationship towards this movie. This is almost a 2022 version of mean girls; i like that they shed light on the new "mean" people, who look and speak very charismatically and play the role of the good guy to fit in and get the approval they seek from others. Now, what i did not like was the acting, it was poor and lacking. I also didn't enjoy the fast pace of the movie; one moment they are enemies and the next moment they are best friends again and the entire revenge plan is thrown. Overall i cannot say it was a bad movie, but it was lacking logical progress and some good acting skills.
