Suzu is a 17-year-old high-school student living in a rural town with her father. Wounded by the loss of her mother at a young age, Suzu one day discovers the massive online world "U" and dives into this alternate reality as her avatar, Belle. Before long, all of U's eyes are fixed on Belle, when, suddenly, a mysterious, dragon-like figure appears before her.

Beautifully made
A beautifully animated movie with wondrous visuals and a really good cinematography. Every second coming off from this movie is such a breath of fresh air - the views are simply breathtaking. The female protagonist is a very likable and relatable character, and so are the supporting cast that's in the movie. I was simply just still while watching through, the music is just so ear candy it made me moved. The character designs, all of them, are so pretty and whimsical, props to the designers for having such a creative mindset to make these. This is a very important recommendation coming from me, anime fans who love deep stories should definitely watch this. - jeffcour - 4 April 2023
Utterly stunning
Absolute beauty. Incredible animation and emotion. Very likable and relatable characters, A masterclass in reflecting our universal obsession with the internet while treasuring our privacy...we can be cruel or beautiful, talented or wasted, our opinion known to the world... but no-one knows who we truly are. We can be world-famous, but in reality a painfully shy introvert. Oh yes, let's toss a Beauty and the Beast undercurrent to this story, as well. Wow! If you enjoyed 'Wolf Children' by this same director, and if you have even an ounce of emotional maturity and an appreciation for irony, if you have a passing interest in incredible and well-done anime, 'Belle' is for you. - suryadinataadiputra - 22 November 2022

The middle story of this anime have the same story like 'beauty and the beast' movie.
The only good thing about this anime is the animation and the songs. I stopped watching it after 50 minutes.
Short story, there's this very shy high school girl, went into virtual world and became a famous singer in the virtual world, in the real life she's a loser tho, one day when she's doing a concert in the virtual world, suddenly there's a beast that being chase by some people, and since then the girl so interested in him and after meeting him for a very short time, she suddenly wanted to protect him and started to meet him often, then of course the people that chasing him started to chase her too, cause first she's a very famous singer with over 25mill followers, and no one know who's the beast or where is he etc etc. - greggman - 6 September 2022
Not one of Mamoru Hosoda's better movies
If you want to see a good Mamoru Hosoda movie see. "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", "Wolf Children", or "Summer Wars". This one, "Belle", is kind of crap. It's like it's written by a 13yr old. The "problems" if you could call it that, of teens being too shy, are overblown in the extreme. I know Japanese dramas and anime is full of this stuff and I lived 15yrs in Japan, but this is just too much.
Other issues: The VR world really doesn't have much of a point. The idea that some rando could become internationally famous isn't some future thing. It already exists today with Youtube, Instagram, TikTok.
Belle falls for The Dragon for no reason whatsoever. Compare to say, Tombo, from Kiki's Delivery Service. It's subtle but we know why Tombo is interested in Kiki and his interest seems genuine. Belle's interest in The Dragon just appears. It's just taken for granted. We're given zero reason to believe it.
The animation itself is just ok. There's plenty of anime movies with better animation and more impressive scenes. In fact Mamoru's own "Summer Wars" looks better than this on almost every level. - Megan_Shida - 12 August 2022
Looks Great! Cool Style!
I really thought the animation was great and I loved a lot of the stylistic choices. A lot of the ideas involving the internet and music were also very cool. There is just A LOT going on with the story. There's a lot of elements of Beauty and the Beast, The Matrix, and other ideas and I don't feel like they always came together smoothly. All in, I'm happy to have watched it.
