Invest your money and time somewhere else
Remember COVID? Yeah, me too. Dumb Money by Craig Gillespie is a film about the GameStop stock short squeeze that happened in 2021. It is an okay retelling of the story. There were some great performances by America Ferrera and Paul Dano as Keith Gill, and there are some funny moments, but other than that, this film is meh. There were also so many montages in this file with clips from real-life news clips of the situation.

Additionally, we follow a number of different people who invested in GameStop stock, and they really didn't add anything to the film. There was just another side plot that added nothing to the overall story. I did think Pete Davison's character was funny as Keith's brother, but other than that, this film is not hilarious and just kind of feels dated, in my opinion.

This film also bombed at the box office, so I don't think we'll be seeing retellings of stories from the 2020s anytime soon. Dumb Money is a disappointing film with some good performances from the main lead, some side characters, and some funny jokes, but other than that, I think I would like to invest my time somewhere else.

    Why So Nasty?
I find these kinds of movie very interesting. A real life docu-drama about a recent event. Especially when it's to do with the financial markets and market manipulation. The thing I always learn is that we, the little people, don't know anything

But two things I didn't like about this movie. Firstly, there wasn't really much of a story there to make a full movie; even a relatively short one. You got no sense of how the shorting really works, and the rest was just reporting on a bunch of normal people buying stock, and waiting.

Secondly, why the horrible lowest common denominator with music and language? I don't mind bad language but why so much, and why are we listening to WAP - probably the most disgusting well known song ever released. Are all 'young people' this unpleasant? Do they all scream obscenities whenever they feel like it, listen to bad music with disgusting lyrics, and basically have no soul or 'warmth'?

Truly depressing, if that's the generation of the future. More likely, the filmmakers think this is needed to get an audience.
