unofficialmsm - 30 June 2024 One for old Godzilla fans "Godzilla x Kong" has faced mixed reviews, with some critics labeling it as "dumb" or criticizing its CGI. However, these critiques seem off the mark. The CGI in "Godzilla x Kong" is some of the best ever seen in a monster movie, far surpassing the days when these creatures were portrayed by actors in rubber suits. It's important to remember that Godzilla and Kong films have rarely aimed for serious, high-brow cinema outside of the very first Godzilla in 1954.
In comparison to the over 30 previous Godzilla and Kong movies, "Godzilla x Kong" is far from the worst; it's actually a significant improvement. It's definitely a step up from the 2014 "Godzilla" with Bryan Cranston, which, despite the hype, was ultimately disappointing.
The art style in "Godzilla x Kong" is fantastic, offering visually stunning scenes that keep the audience engaged. The movie maintains a brisk pace, never slowing down, ensuring that viewers are consistently entertained.
If you want a decent monster movie I'd find it hart to believe you wouldn't be entertained and you certainly won't get bored.
Is it stupid? It's about a nuclear Lizard creature and a Giant Monkey that come from the hollow Earth , of course it is.
P.s you can tell the noobs in here, the ones that think this movie introduced the hollow Earth theory in Godzilla movies. It was mentioned a bunch of times but fully explored in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah 1991.
vinsma - 22 June 2024 CGI-fest mess of a corporate-produced movie Pros: Production value is pretty high, inline with many of Legendary's other movies. That's about it honestly.
Cons: incomprehensible plot, even for a kids movie. Cliche as all heck. It's like someone taking all the tropes, fed it into a corporate monster and regurgitated out.
I like the 80s music revival but this was forced in for no apparent reason and didnt feel cohesive to the movie at all.
I obviously don't blame the kid, but I hate adding kids to the plot for no reason. And for some reason, it's an ultra special kid with the ability to summon TItans. Just because. No explanation otherwise.
What is the point of the gravity thingy? If anything it helped the apes escape into the surface.
You can't throw in east Asians and make them indigenous. It doesn't work like that.
Just casual mass deaths, I'm thinking at least ten thousand people died during this movie. But giant monsters though, so very cool.
Worse of all, it was boring! I nearly fell asleep. There was no twist, nothing to keep my attention. It was going to end exactly as everyone thought it would.
Just obvious cash grabs at this point. It'll become a TNT movie that you have in the background to keep someone's kid entertained.
indearalph - 14 June 2024 Incredible CGI (mostly), weaker story I love the Legendary Monsterverse movies, I always have, and the CGI is one of the best parts about these movies but I feel like it all went from bad to worse between 2014 and 2024, and not just because of the CGI.
I love how the movie opens with Kong (who's had less movies than Godzilla and at least deserves a chance) and I was kind of left wondering where Godzilla would come in until about halfway through the introduction when he was FINALLY mentioned. I love the Skar King idea, although he feels like he needs more work. He struggles to defeat Kong and shows his weakness by forcing his slaves to do it. Shimo is a really unnecessary addition to this movie, just stick with the apes and Godzilla, and the whole movie feels more like a disaster in a kindergarten where the kids can't get along and now they're fighting and mum (Mothra) has to come along, whack them over the heads and force them to be kinder to each other.
While the plot behind the Skar King is quite good, and most of the other characters are explained pretty well, there's still a TONNE of unanswered questions and missed opportunities. How is Mothra alive again? That was answered, but the explaination was terrible. Why are there so many Titan skeletons everywhere that are thousands of times bigger than our original titans? No explanation at all. How did the Skar King gain Shimo? Once again, almost no explanation, and Godzilla and Kong are no longer friends when they meet each other in Egypt???
I also noticed some flaws with the CGI, mostly when Shimo was tossing Kong around by the hand, although the rest of the CGI was exceptional. I hate how all the monsters seem to act differently though, and even appear different. Godzilla's pink AND he can jump and run, Kong has a toothache and half the time the film felt really stupid, with lots of unnecessary scenes like the Tiamat vs Godzilla and Scylla vs Godzilla. I think those two times felt really forced, as though Godzilla at least had to do something in the movie.
Apart from all this, the film was amazing, with excellent CGI and TONNES of monsters, the perfect movie for a monster lover. The characters were incredible and unique and I love all the scenes of Hollow Earth. Somehow, still a great movie.
Sharpener988 - 7 June 2024 I don't know what to say It is crazy how a movie that throws som much random crap at you can be so predictable:( It is like the writers we're all like "Let's do... Yeah, let's do everything!"
Pink Godzilla? Go
Bionic arm Kong? Of course
Telepathic natives? Why not
And still, you see it coming from miles away, all the time!:o
And that's just scratching the surface of this... this.... I don't know what to call it, but somehow all
I am a huge fan of the 2014 Godzilla, mainly because gives you the scale of it all! Its dark, intimidating, rumbling and (lack of a better word) realistic, in a way.
This movie is frame by frame PACKED with neon lights, crazy creatures, oneliners, basic D&D-esque characters and cringey attempts at making a charming impression.
What killed it for me more than anything is the fact that the creatures don't even feel large:s They move waaay to fast, they execute weird wrestling moves and parkour around left and right.
I feel guilty airing all these negative opinions, as I know there are tons of people who whole-heartedly put their soul into making this movie, that they hoped would resonate but what we got is just, IMO, horrible:(
