4 stars for the forest views
Pure and utter hokum. Made no real sense. Nothing really explained. Too much wrong with it. Too many coincidences. Characters flawed to the point of not being believable. Cine was good. Acting not bad. Comedy didn't work. However after saying all that a sequel after the aliens invade and replicate themselves would be a great comedy. The human race with its physical and mental instabilities would make the replicants suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, MND etc. Young horny teenager replicants. The possibilities are endless. I don't think that's what the writers and director had in mind though. I think their work was to be taken seriously.

Great watch but lost me at the reveal
After just having watched God is a Bullet starring Maika Monroe I thought it would be a great idea to watch this 2022 horror movie starring her as well. The premise seemed interesting and just right up my alley, so I gave it a try.

It follows this dynamic duo of a couple portrayed by Jake Lacy and Maika Monroe, who are backpacking through the Pacific Northwest. The movie starts off fairly slow but it's a joy to watch these two on screen together. Their relationsship is portrayed realistic and slightly flawed. The movie kept a mysterious and eerie feeling and there are some really great and creative cinematic shots of the nature. Then there comes a point where my heart literally stood still and that's where the movie makes a turn.

Sadly I have to say that from this moment on the movie slightly lost me and I feel like viewers will either feel the same or it will be this point where their watching experience will improve. For me the movie lost its scary and eerie feeling of a mysterious threat and went too much onto the humorous side. Apart from that the performances were pretty good and the overall premise was interesting, though not completely original. Anyway that being said it was still a great watching experience and I definitely recommend this movie. [6,3/10]

    Fun sci-fi/horror romance flick
Some of the story can be a little flawed or at least silly for a lack of better words in some aspects but it doesn't take away from the feeling of dread and suspense that guides you through the entire film. It's very well directed and Maika did a good job playing the intelligent and moody protagonist. It had some pretty gnarley and memorable moments as well. Even at times where you felt the movie was weening off in excitement it happened to sneak in a few twists, I guess you can say. It is filled with some jump scares throughout, which I've never been a big fan of but I wouldn't say that it's over done.

    Movie started as a 5/10 but worked it's way to a 7/10
The baseline for this movie was a 5 but the two lead actors and twist bumped it up to a 7/10 for me.

The two leads did a great job of conveying the emotions that their characters were exhibiting and after the twist the lead actress seemed like a different woman altogether. For me that made the twist even better as I did not see it coming.

The lead actor also does a great job in tonal shift when needed. These aren't Oscar performances but they are good and serve the story well.

There is a brief tonal switch in the movie that some may not like but I found it enjoyable and would have liked to see the movie lean into it a little more.

CGI isn't great but isn't used often. Locations are beautiful. Overall a movie that could have been bland but is propped up by the leads performances.

    From Suspenseful to Silly
I'd give the first half a 7 and the last half a 1. I thought the show did well in creating suspense and uncertainty, but once what was really happening was revealed, it just got silly. And I think they used the same sound effect for the 'creature' as they did in the Predator movies even though there was no indication of why the creature was making that particular sound. It seemed pretty random. The movie would have been much better if the predator had appeared at one point.

The strategy the one character used in one particular escape attempt was comical, as was the interaction between the 'creature' and that same character. The big climax was anything but exciting.

I realize much of this is pretty vague, as it's difficult to write much without adding spoilers, but suffice to say this is not a good film, and I have to wonder if any of the good reviews are from people who watched it. It's really not unintentionally funny enough to be entertaining either, so the only reason to tune in is to see what reviews you agree with. I'm guessing it will be the negative ones.

what a cocktail of genres was that?
I do like alien movies... i do like horror movies... i do like drama also and sometimes supernatural movies as well... but i never though all these together mixed up...such a weird combination! It's like eating chocolate with french fries or drinking coffee with beer if you know what i mean...this movie changes character like three different times, i liked the part before the twist, i liked the part after the twist... but not the movie as a set! I won't recomended it at all, weird stuff happening all the time, you have to be a little bit crazy or drunk to like a Dj that plays metal and pop and folk all together on a night... i am so messed up i don't know what score should i give... so neutral '5' suits me fine at this point.

    Not bad in this genre.
Significant Other is a sci-fi mystery thriller with a very small cast. It's basically just Maika Monroe and Jake Lacy that have all the screen time but they did a good job playing their characters. As for the story it's easy to follow, it has a good eerie vibe to it mostly due to the good soundtrack and mysterious plot. The sci-fi scenes were innovative and interesting. As for the mystery there's a good twist, not a lot of people will see it coming. In this genre there are a lot of stinkers, but also a lot of excellent movies. I would rate this one between them, certainly good enough for people that like this genre and maybe lesser to people that prefer realistic stories.
