    More action than comedy.
I've never been a fan of wrestling, so all the charcacters from the WWF it's just not for me. Also not The Prototype with John Cena. But since he started acting, mostly as a comedian, he had me laughing quite a bit, especially in the comedies Ricky Stanicky and the two Vacation Friends. I was expecting something similar with Freelance but it just never got to the same level of comedy as the previously mentioned movies. Still entertaining though but not hilarious, more action than comedy. John Cena might not be the greatest actor but he's not annoying to watch, I was just expecting something funnier. Still worth a watch in my opinion.

Freelance" offers a dose of entertainment with its straightforward storyline and John Cena's charismatic presence, yet ultimately falls prey to predictability and simplicity.
Freelance" offers a dose of entertainment with its straightforward storyline and John Cena's charismatic presence, yet ultimately falls prey to predictability and simplicity.

Cena's portrayal of an ex-mercenary roped back into the world of security for a journalist interviewing a dictator sets the stage for what could have been a gripping narrative. However, the plot unfolds along well-trodden paths, adhering closely to familiar tropes and offering few surprises along the way. While the Colombian filming locations lend visual appeal, they can only do so much to elevate the film above its formulaic structure.

The attempt at injecting humor into the proceedings feels forced at times, with the script failing to deliver standout moments beyond occasional chuckles. Additionally, the performances, while adequate, lean towards the over-the-top side, detracting from the overall immersion in the story.

One notable departure is Cena's portrayal, which eschews his typical larger-than-life action hero persona in favor of a more restrained character. However, this departure may disappoint those expecting his trademark physicality and combat prowess, as he finds himself avoiding confrontations rather than embracing them.

Despite its shortcomings, "Freelance" benefits from solid production values and a competent supporting cast. Nevertheless, a lackluster script and uninspired storytelling prevent it from rising above mediocrity, resulting in a film that, while offering moments of entertainment, ultim.

I need 100 minutes of my life back
Thought Cena's agent would be smarter than to allow him to sign on to this lame flick that aspires to be the best of The Rundown, The Lost City and even dashes of Romancing the Stone....but fails miserably. The movie really struggles with trying to find a balance of a smattering of comedy that is flatly delivered, and being a more dramatic action movie...that also falls flat because of the random moments of comedy. Cena can be a really solid comedic actor, but the backstory of the military struggles, as well as really weak dialogue, tends to pull this movie into a flat and sometimes depressing feeling.

Go watch any of the movies mentioned earlier - or Plane - if you want to not regret your time.
