    Johnny Depp
There were two main stars, Louis XV and Countess du Barry. Johnny Depp did a remarkable job of playing the French King, and fulfilled the role, and America from Kentucky of all things. Maïwenn as the Countess sabotaged her own movie by playing Jeanne herself. Not only was she in no way a historical likeness, but her age and looks just made it seem like a joke. Her acting was passable but you could almost agree with those unpleasant people at court. What WAS the King thinking? The other actors did well carrying on the script and the single celibate daughters of the King were great comic relief. The ending was mostly true, leaving out a lot of details but those can be looked up.

    Almost like Old Hollywood
Johnny as a king was beautiful. I almost forgot that he is American because his French was so good. The chemistry between him and Maïwenn was amazing, as well. The scenes that needed dialog had it, and the scenes that did not need dialog were amazing with just facial expressions and body language. The costumes were regal and elegant. It is a love story for the ages. It is a love story between two people who love each other but are in the wrong social class. This love story also incorporates politics at times, as well. Love is complicated at times which is real life at times, as well. I highly recommend this movie.
