"Bottoms" of the Barrel. Avoid this for your Pride Month viewing
I know I'm not the target audience for this film, as I haven't been in high school for quite some time, but what was this garbage? I guess it's satire, a queer high school dark comedy, or an examination of women in a post-feminist world? I'm not sure, but whatever it is, it didn't work. Even the bloopers at the end fell flat.

What I do know is that as a movie lover, it is a red hot inferno pile of trash, and I'm actually mad that I watched it. What was with all the positive reviews floating around? I didn't laugh once, and I found absolutely everyone unlikable and grating...even the adults! There was no counter of anything positive or sensible amidst of all the violence, harassment, and blatant criminal charges. Again, if it's satire and trying to be something like "Heathers" combined with "Superbad", it didn't resonate for me, and the suspension of disbelief is just too great to overcome for the world created here. Was the screenplay written by a chimpanzee or AI?

Really lousy choice to kick Pride Month off with this year. Avoid at all costs.

    Don't take it too seriously
This movie is meant to be taken as a joke because it is a joke. It's not even trying to hide the fact that it's a joke. It is absolutely ridiculous and it's not even pretending to not be ridiculous. And I love that about it. It's very original in that sense. However, that alone was not enough. Even as a joke, a movie still has to have a plausible plot. And this movie almost did but not quite. Way too many plot holes. Also, way too many predictable moments for a movie that is pretending to be original.

It started out great but then it got more and more predictable as it went on. And then the jokes stopped and it got all serious and just totally predictable and like... ew. In the beginning, it was kinda believable. But then it got like - nah, dude, that's totally fantasy land now.

That's basically what the movie is like.

    Checks All the Boxes
Bottoms checks all the boxes for the best themes of your favorite 80s, 90s, and 00s teenybopper movies. I know a lot of good scenes were cut out because they shared some of the funny outtakes in the credits. The two main characters had a lot of chemistry. Will there be a Bottoms two? The only drawbacks were I wanted to see more Punkie Johnson/Auntie Rhodes and Marshall Lynch/Mr. G! Marshall Lynch should host SNL sometime soon! I would also like to see the backstory on the hot mom club. If you like Ferris Bueller, Pretty in Pink, Never Been Kissed, Fight Club, and Lucas then watch this movie. If you root for the underdog- this is your movie.
