henry8-3 - 21 January 2024 Book Club: The Next Chapter Friends for life Fonda, Bergen, Keaton and Steenburgen decide to take that trip to Italy they had always wanted to after Fonda announces she's getting married.
Whilst you can look on the incredible talent here with great respect for the phenomenal number of great tv and cinema performances they have provided, it doesn't sadly alter the fact that this is a truly lousy film. Their characters are all wealthy and don't seem to care about anything and spend the whole film changing outfits and gushing and hugging every time one of them says something like - isn't love the most wonderful thing. There is no discernible plot, very few funny lines, which mostly come from Bergen - the cynical one - and they extricate themselves from every ridiculously contrived situation with a hug and a smile. Italy looks nice though. Ghastly.
tonyvmonte-54973 - 3 November 2023 Book Club: The Next Chapter was a nice sequel watched by my mom and I My mom and I went to the library today to check out two DVD's of which this was one of them. We had previously watched The Book Club and remembered enjoying that one. This was enjoyable too though I smiled more than laughed at many of the lines and scenes. But it was nice to see Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candace Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen play those characters again as they tour Italy for a bachelorette trip for Ms. Fonda's character before she gets married to Don Johnson. Nice to also see Craig T. Nelson, Andy Garcia, and Johnson back as well. Mom and I really liked this so on that note, we say Book Club: The Next Chapter is worth a look.
Gila1959 - 31 July 2023 1*for Italy. 1* for grown ups movie BUT... What a flop waste of a movie. A bful group of excellent players who have proven themselves in the past. No more. The film takes down the actors. They smile too much. They 'play' too much. Such a waste of a movie. They could have made a really smart and funny movie that raises the issues of older age, marriage at this age, something. Instead, they made a superficial movie like plywood. This is not a comedy. The movie is not funny. There is no plot that is worth anything. A boring, casual and unnecessary movie just like the hour I forced myself to sit in front of it. I'm sorry to write such a poor evaluation. I expected more than what was served to me with such shameful shallowness.
