deloudelouvain - 7 February 2024 Creepy old folks but could have been more elaborated. For the record my wife chose this movie as it was her movie night and she gave it a five. I've watched way worse horror movies and as I was entertained I'll give it a six. It doesn't deserve more though. For that there should have been more explanations. Now you have a movie with questions unanswered and that's never ideal. Writer/director Andy Fetscher should have elaborated on the story a bit more, like why were the old people acting like that, or why not all the old people were doing these things. The acting wasn't bad. The old people were creepy, acting weird and violent, it gave the story a good horror vibe. In short, the movie could have been better so it's kinda a wasted opportunity but it's watchable.
bkgseoul - 25 April 2023 Interesting It's Children of the Corn but the elderly. It wasn't a terrible film, but some of it could've been a lot better. As soon as his girlfriend saw them, the family, dancing together, I knew she wasn't it. How can you be jealous of a family? As soon as she allowed his son, "to be taken", THAT should've been his red flag & let her go. I would've kicked her out since he ignored how she reacted with his estranged wife was attacked. Then she just stood there. I was yelling & cursing at the tv then. I'm glad she got what she deserved but saddened that the kids are orphaned. Relieved to see that their grandfather came back around.
StudleyDave - 12 January 2023 OLD IS STRONG Octogenarian antagonists... an unusual phrase to write, let alone read. As a lesser tried theme in horror, this grabbed me on the synopsis alone, for that reason. It soon becomes clear that any potential intrigue in the foreword isn't going to be realised. The enraged aged are played brilliantly, with the societal chasms between generations being screened in such a way as to make the differences exaggerated, emphasising them as a reason for breakdown on their own, let alone some kind of 'possession'. Any supernatural/mystical element to the story is missing, however, and any true feeling of there being a global event isn't given much focus. It feels like a cult movie in one way, whilst also having so many of the good elements of a zombie flick. Whilst beautifully bleak, and well-acted, it isn't an example of strong writing... there are a number of eye rolling moments. I really hope this paves the way for more Directors and Writers to use the older generations as strong and terrifying antagonists in future horror movies.
olcayozfirat - 9 November 2022 We have to respect old people German origin, Netflix production horror film produced in 2022. I think the thriller and horror elements are used well in the movie. Yes, the subject is very shocking and not acceptable. But if we look at it as a movie, I found it above average. As the name suggests, the film is about the brutalization of the neglected old people. As a result of this brutalization, his eyes no longer see children and grandchildren. But the ending is not very well connected. It spoiled the mood of the movie. The year 2022 has been the year of searching for new ways in horror movies. I hope better movies are coming.
There is sexuality and nudity in the film.
arfdawg-1 - 29 October 2022 Night of the Geriatric Living. Think of this as The Night of the Geriatric Living.
It is very moody and unusal and clearly, based upon some fo the other reviews, not for all tastes.
I really liked it. It's diffferent and kept my interest to see what was going to happen.
The basic plot is whomever breaks up the family is cursed. And then there are the old people who are discarded to old age homes. Hence the title Old People.
I will say that one of the things that distracts from the movie, and may make others think the acting is bad, is that it's dubbed in English from German. I'd bet anything that it plays way better with subtitles in the original language.
Be open minded and give it a chance.
kocer_u - 17 October 2022 Not a good idea I think it's a very bad idea to portray old people as individuals who murder people for no reason and go crazy in order to explain the abandonment and loneliness.
Although I was extremely uncomfortable in many parts, I continued to watch this movie with sadness rather than fear.
I must say that some of the scenes, which are repeated in many places, are very amateurish. I had a hard time understanding the target of the main villain.
With all my good intentions, I would like to think that such a film was made to reach young people and tell the troubles of old people. That's why I recommend watching this disturbing movie.
