Very boring and a terrible story
The movie lacked a good story, the only thing that I like in this movie are the jump scares, but overall the movie was very bad and I didn't like it at all. This movie was literally a waste of time and I don't recommend it to anyone, and I don't know how it is even allowed to be played in cinemas. If you didn't watch it yet, trust me it is not worth at all of your time. We didn't really be engaged with the characters, the movie had so many missing elements, the ending is terrible, this movie just feels like it's incomplete and was totally rushed. And the only thing about the jump scares that may let you flinch is the very loud and amplified volume.

One of the most BORING & STUPID movies I've ever seen
Let me start by saying, I am a horror movie fanatic and I have watched the worst of the worst and B movies galore, this is definitely in the list of worst ones I've ever seen. I can't believe I paid $25 to watch this garbage. Oh where to start... first off you have to watch 80% of the movie before anything even remotely interesting happens, and even then it's mildly interesting at best. You know how in a lot of horror movies the main characters make really dumb decisions? Well these have got to be the DUMBEST characters in any horror movie I've ever seen, and like I said, I've seen a LOT of horror movies. After, regrettably, watching the whole thing, the only explanation I could come up with was that this has got to be a satire on the brainlessness of liberals who get taken advantage of and have to deal with the consequences... but that would be giving the writers too much credit.

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time watching this. Trust me.

    who wants this
Somewhere in Oregon, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez) are driving to Portland. The dating couple takes a detour and ends up in a remote village in the middle of the woods. Their car breaks down and they rent a cabin for the night.

This franchise is a series of middling horrors. The first one came out in 2008 and the second one a decade later. I like parts of these movies, but ultimately, I have not been a fan. The kill counts cannot be that high. The atmospheric isolation is always good, but that's not enough. I'm barely paying attention to this and then we get to the ending. This ending is not what I want. I don't want this.

    Disappointed
I'm not sure why they would call this Chapter 1. It is basically a retelling of the original story from 2008, although not done nearly as well. That film had a very organic, and almost gritty feel to it. It was incredibly inventive and original, and Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman both had terrific performances

I had a lot to look forward to with the arrival of another "Strangers" movie. I feel like I would have liked this film a lot more if the writer and director would have come with something more original. The acting wasn't all bad, and the cinematography was top notch. Maybe the next two chapters will add something more, and make this film more meaningful in the long run. We can only hope.

In the end it ended up a disappointment due to the fact that it was a story we've already heard, with nothing of note to build upon the prior experience. Decent try, but I feel 3 stars is a fair rating.

"The Strangers: Chapter 1" manages to save itself and remain a decent film that could have achieved more.
"The Strangers: Chapter 1" is a barely salvageable reboot, it is not a good movie, but it is not terrible either as mentioned by several websites. Veteran director and horror master Renny Harlin does an acceptable job, horror fans know his work within this genre, and he manages to deliver well-made suspense scenes. The performances of the leading couple are credible. The cinematography is the most outstanding feature of this installment and together with the filming locations, achieves a disturbing atmosphere. The script declines in intensity compared to the two predecessor films, but still "The Strangers: Chapter 1" manages to save itself and remain a decent film that could have achieved more.
