ikata-49417 - 19 July 2023 Worth watching The acting was solid, the directing was mostly good and the writing was decent. There were too many scenes of characters doing random mundane activities while music played e.g. Walking. Outside of those the story flowed well. The kid was annoying, but otherwise all the primary characters had depth and the performances were decent. I particularly enjoyed Ralph Fiennes and Lily James. Carey Mulligan was good too. Early in the movie Mr. Brown was in danger and I was genuinely concerned for the character. It dawned on me how quickly I had been compelled to care about this fictional character. Kudos. I thought Lily James did a great job non-verbally conveying the struggle her character was facing.
wanthonygerard - 16 August 2022 beautiful movie Great story, great actors. Fascinating portrayal of finding the Sutton Hoo treasures.
Set in England in the 1930s, a wealthy landowner and widow hires an archaeologist / excavator Basil to " dig" the mounds on her property.
This thoughtful drama develops slowly -as they discover a priceless treasure ( a ship from the Dark Ages that changes our understanding of history), the relationship between Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes slowly develops.
kalgrim - 1 April 2022 Elegant Lately I've been thinking an awful lot about WWII and more specifically England and Churchill. Today that last day of March 2022 I can't help but feel like we've tragically found ourselves at this crossroad again and I wonder if we'll be smart enough and brave enough to do what's right, whatever that may be. I wonder if history will remember us favorably. I stumbled upon this film suffering Netflix after midnight hoping to find something to hold my interest, or put me to sleep. Without any knowledge of the source material I decided to view this film based on the merit of the cast. The story stirred emotions in me which hasn't happened for a while. I think I've been numb from the pandemic. This story is beautiful. It's the only word I can think of. Life and death, love in so many forms, determination and devotion all found in the dirt. I wish I could purchase this movie and add it to my library.
jasminn_tan - 2 February 2022 Takes a while to get interesting Things only started to get more interesting after their excavation yielded some treasure. The cast was great too, bringing a more emotional aspect of the movie to life.
