    8.7 rating here.
The high rating of 8.7 here at IMDB clearly shows how low the Pakistani film viewer's standards are. If this movie was released in India it wouldn't have an average of even 5.0. But as it's a Pakistani movie, the cinema who has not produced anything worth watching since two decades now, it's listed among the top rated movies of all time. The story might have worked in 70's, when people generally had low education, general knowledge and IQ's. But it doesn't make sense how can it work for people in such a modern era. The characters are monotonous and the movie has weak dialogues, parred with the loud delivery. Jokes are not funny, but as every character in the movie starts laughing, you start thinking whether you missed or misunderstood something. Every actor in the movie is overacting. What else can I say? I'm more disappointed by the people rating this movie 10/10 than the movie itself.

    Best movie ever made
Ok I was a bit skeptical going in because of all the hype and drama around this production but was pleasantly surprised. Simply put- this film has high entertainment value, you will not be disappointed. Without giving away any spoilers, I think Bilal Lashari has done a great job in recreating and retelling an iconic Punjabi-Pakistani story. Having taken inspiration not only from the original Maula Jatt (1979) but also from the Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi's short story "Gandasa". I think this film does an incredible job of bringing this tale to a new generation, while still preserving the original punjabi dialogue. There's always an added pressure on the actors for remakes especially for cult-classics such as this one, however Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt and Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt did complete justice to the characters. In fact all the actors (save for one actress, you can guess who) gave solid performances. Beautiful score, incredible cinematography, all in all this film is really really wonderfully done.

Huge step in the right direction for Pakistani film-making
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a generic revenge story done very well. Characters are one-dimensional; they fall into their respective tropes hard and the acting which brings them alive is true to form. Dialogue often times is unnecessarily and hilariously poetic, making it borderline over-the-top yet interesting. Choreography and stunt work is fantastical, not too realistic due to some of the actor's lack of physical prowess but also not some insane physics-defying punch fest which takes you out of the immersion. Props are inconsistent, the clothes are sometimes too clean considering the environment, blood looks like ketchup mixed with water, and the weapons can look like plastic ornaments if you focus hard enough. CGI is good enough, easy to tell where work is needed, and fire still looks like something from an early 2000's video game. The music is the typical desi fanfare that will get anyone excited, however, rather than working with all the moving parts in tandem to enhance the overall scene, there are times where the music and what's on screen tend to battle for the spotlight.

With all that being said, what may seem like overly specific nitpicks are in no way negative implications for the movie.

This is a movie that thrives on not taking itself seriously and is out to show everyone a very good time, using its imperfections to its advantage. This leads to the primary driving force of the movie, which is its directing. Bilal Lashari is a clear enthusiast of cinema and his love for all things filmmaking shows on screen. The cinematography of this movie is phenomenal: with the engaging camera angles, to the different settings showcasing the personalities of each area and populace, and especially in utilizing the grandiose inflections of the Punjabi language to make every discussion have a strong aura of prominence. The charm is enhanced when a film such as this finds the perfect balance in mindless action, cheesy dialogue, and highlighting the respective actor's proficiency in a way that only a talented director can do. A director's cut is desperately needed because you can tell there are more underlying characterizations that are hidden, waiting to be let out.

Pakistan's Lollywood can make its mark on the global stage with visionaries such as Bilal Lashari at the forefront. Future projects should learn from the strengths of this movie, not emulate it, in order to keep bringing out hits after hits. I wouldn't say this is a movie for overanalytical critics to enjoy, because this movie isn't supposed to be Pakistan's version of Gladiator or Lord of the Rings, but more like Troy or 300. Highly recommended to go and watch this with friends.

    Horrible.
My expectations were high, I was very excited to watch this film, but when I watched it, it was disappointment after disappointment. The cinematography? Better than expected, the fight scenes? Thrilling. But the storyline was horrible, nothing interesting going on, it was just manslaughter and bloodshed. I don't mind violence, but at least put a few plot twists or make the storyline more gripping. This movie, doesn't give any importance to villains. Instead, it's all about the innocent or more beloved characters winning. Which I have no issue with, I even cheered for the innocent characters, but it's disappointing how there's no plot twist, there's no attention grappling, like, at all. It was boring. If you enjoy watching villains winning/taking the throne, or enjoy plot twists, then this movie isn't for you.
