mondalsanu-87599 - 20 February 2024 inspiring story of a women Luckiest girl alive... after heard this you thought the girl should be lucky. But no my friend this is not about story of luck it's story about truth, coincidence, situation, and mental state of a person. Which are indirectly work to make a large decision. The story is about this.
A well established and bright future girl, who had a terrific past. She can't explain it to others. But inside of her she wanted to. She want justice but stayed neutral cause of her loved one. Some time it's her mother in teenage and her fiance.
This is a situation when a person thinks a lot for her every steps and it's impacts.. but atlast she overcome every obstacles and she became straight forwar and telling the truth of her life.
A78_ - 16 July 2023 how scars remain As some reviews have touched upon the lingering skew on reality that severe trauma causes can last and last and last. To capture this as the film did is no mean feat and delivers on the complexity and intracacy that victims and survivors endure and navigate, often in silence and unsupported.
Having not read the book and without any preconceived ideas what the film might be about helped to get immersed into the psyche of the charachter. The trauma, societal conflict, toxic masculinity, denial, and relationship dynamics that change as perceptions unfold and adapt was well captured in the writing and acting.
The messaging may overall be difficult to understand and grasp without experience, so it's understandable that this film may not resonate the same way with everyone.
mchardiemm - 25 March 2023 Deeply disturbing This is my first review, but I feel like a had to tell you all - this is such a good movie, yet deeply disturbing. Mila Kunis is amazing, you can feel her pain, you can clearly see how trauma can mess up your entire life. And also - how messed up is America and the right to own the gun...
The topic of the movie is heavy, but we must make movies, and we must talk about sexual assaults, about bullying, about children and young people - we adults failed.
The movie maybe is slow paced and reveals slowly the whole tragedy, but in my opinion in only adds heaviness and drama we witnessed.
Not a typical Saturday night easy to watch movie, but so much more.
RahulM007 - 31 December 2022 A tense and disheartening experience Mila Kunis is the obvious standout, but even she can't save the film's disjointed and scattered narrative. It seemed as if the producers, writers, and director tried to condense the story to fit the allotted runtime of the movie. The end result is unfortunately a film lacking substance and any sort of depth vis a vis to the traumatic experience of the lead character. Basically, the story felt rushed and should have been adapted into a Netflix mini-series instead. However, I still appreciate what the movie is trying to accomplish. The film is inspiring, harrowing, emotional, and infuriating. Ani should have left Dean to die. He outright deserved it. By the end, Ani persevered and finally accepted her worth. She managed to let go of her traumatic past and be content unencumbered by any man. Ani took down her attacker by tricking him into confessing to his crime.
Final verdict: 6.3/10.
claridiazyofre - 25 November 2022 Trauma is not supposed to be entertaining When you tell a story about PTSD, you're not supposed to be having fun, entertaining an audience or "teach anything meaningful about life or humanity". Trauma is as it is, raw, harsh, and difficult to swallow. As a victim myself, I have to admit that this movie beautifully portrays it. I found every behavior relatable, and understood perfectly the process. Mila's performance is spectacular. I love what they did with the writing, even though the storytelling was sometimes a bit confusing. It's not a movie you can watch while you do other things, you need to pay attention to it.
Cried a lot too.
lee-37174 - 11 November 2022 I want my Hour and a half back Mila Kunis needs to stay with comedy parts . This movie was awful. Very hard to follow. It went from one extreme to another. The movie actually made me nauseous it was so bad. How it received any awards is really incredible. The only actor I knew of was Mila. The other actors never saw or heard of before. I assume the only reason this movie is getting any recognition is because Mila has the leading role. Without her this movie would have never made it to Netflix. Mila really needs to be more selective before signing on to a terrible movie like this. Mila needs to do more television sitcoms. That is where she is best.
ecazzani - 31 October 2022 Needs a trigger warning for multiple situations Movie is like 20mins too long and needs multiple trigger warnings (sexual assault, gun violence). Specifically the sexual assault scenes felt very poorly done. In this day and age we don't need to see graphic assault like that, it would have been just as powerful if they implied that level of violence. The movie also doesn't do a good job explaining the lasting impacts of SA in her and her fiancés sex life. He brushes her off for being "deviant" when in reality Ani's sexuality has been altered from her intense trauma. I think people who have experience a like situation can fill in the blanks on Ani's behavior and feelings but it's not easy to fill them in. I feel like this movie wanted to be Promising Young Woman but fell very short.
