    Reasonable, satisfactory
A reasonably solid action and suspense film, it has its share of contrived moments and forced situations, along with some implausible elements.

The performances, however, stand out as particularly commendable. Despite the narrative lacking in spectacular elements, the story holds its ground as engaging. It offers a decent level of entertainment, especially for those inclined towards action and suspense genres.

While the film occasionally succumbs to forced scenarios and implausibility, it manages to maintain an overall sense of coherence. The strong performances by the cast elevate the viewing experience, compensating for any shortcomings in the plot's extraordinariness. The storyline, although not reaching the heights of spectacularity, presents a compelling narrative that caters well to enthusiasts of action and suspense films. In essence, the movie strikes a balance between its flaws and strengths, offering a satisfactory level of entertainment for its target audience.

What Girl Scout troop training did they get?
Allison Janney in the lead role, is awesome! Totally hard core and bad ass! And when she switches to an 'elderly lady' looking for her dog, she totally sells that too! She really made the character of Lou real as heck! And she made the movie totally watchable! Her dead panned humor, and biting one-liners were right on for the tone and strength of her character.

The other actors are very much overshadowed by Janney's performance (especially the guy that played the sheriff!). And the dog's performance as well! And the gorgeous settings and scenery!

But, I do think they put a bit too much Toto in it!

Slightly above mediocre; Janney is a treasure
The premise has (had) great promise. The writing, though, disappoints in practically every way. The mother is an annoying and lame character, just taken off the Hollywood storage shelf, and Smollett brings no real skill to the role. The writing for every character is bad, but Janney has the chops to bulk out the role and make Lou intriguing and compelling. Matt Craven does well with another stock but pleasant character, and the husband is a thin caricature, but the actor mimics enough Jon Bernthal to at least be watchable.

Bad writing and significant absurdities, along with Smollett hamming it up the whole way, make what could have been interesting and original into pedestrian check-the-box fluff.

Janney makes it worth watching, though, as long as you don't expect her to rescue the whole thing from the lousy writing.

    Allison Janney Shines
In a rather straightforward action movie, Lou makes a rather believable autistisk spy, where the game was all the world to her, but the years in hiding close to people she get close to changes her somewhat. She shows what the bear mother is capable of when the cub is threatened, even by a relative.

The movie won't win an Oscar for the most intelligent script, but scenery and mood should be accounted for the high rating I Gave. Was a long time since I felt this much suspense throughout a movie. Praise J. J. for no lense flares.

Allison been a favorite ever since West Wing and lately the TV show Mom, but here I saw a side of her portfolio I am happy to have watched. Enjoy!!!

Loved the cinematography but not the film
I took a chance on it because of the supposed connection to 1953 coup in Iran (by the CIA). It wasn't about that at all. They just dropped that episode as back story for a simplistic, predictable script that couldn't hold my attention. I respect Allison Janney a lot, but she picked a loser in this one. There's also a weird thing going on where they have two sociopathic types as key characters in a film that's a bit overly sentimental at the same time. I thought the gritty feel of the photography and the location were complimentary and well done. I just wish the story had been developed with more complexity and depended less on less on chases, scare tactics, and fear of what was going to pop out at you next type of tension. I think the idea could have potential, but it needs a more cerebral approach. I want my two hours back.

Don't expect anything worth watching here
What started off well enough and promised a possibly intriguing or at least thrilling movie experience turned out the complete opposite in my opinion.

Not to give anything away here, the story is about the kidnapping of Lou's neighbour's daughter. They live on a small remote island. We soon discover the identity of the kidnapper who has some serious mental issues. He is a sadistic psychopath but he barely sends chills down your spine like you might expect.

Lou is an ex-CIA spy so it looks like she just comes in real handy here. There is twist to the story but hardly a great one.

It is slow, lacking in thrills and a good story/plot. Also some very unbelievable fight scenes.
