robdrummond - 4 June 2024 Goodness me - what rubbish What on earth the BBC got themselves involved in this piece of rubbish I cannot imagine.
Maybe it's a "box ticking" exercise - who knows.
It seems to be some kind of Swedish film but (thankfully) it's in English - but also badged up BBC Films. None of that adds up.
Ok I am only an hour in (with 1.5 hours to go - ugh!) - but I can't see the purpose of this film at this point. Literally there is little or no plot.
The opening scenes don't appear to have anything to do with this film (so far) and it's like I have been watching different films.
It's entirely possible of course that "something" will actually happen. But I won't hold my breath.
OK - Just after I wrote this (10 mins later) ''something'' did happen - but seriously, its still not worth watching.
I finished it. It got even worse as it went on and the ending is complete PANTS.
joakim589-1 - 13 April 2024 Didn't like the last scene It was an interesting movie and subjects. I like the beginning, how they talk about money and gender roles. And then on the boat, how the rich people live in abundance and how then don't even got to see the lower workers.
But I would have liked the movie better if the last scene (the running boy) wasn't in the movie, and would have ended with the woman holding the stone over her head listening to the girls suggestion ("we can work together"), and that we didn't know what she chose, to kill her (communism) or to work with her (capitalism). Would have been an 8 without the running boy scene. Now a 7.
david-meldrum - 26 January 2024 Not Unrewarding, But There Are Better Films On This Theme Another day, another Eat The Rich film to catch up on. This one is a scabrous, hard-edged satirical comedy which is all text with little in the way of subtext. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but by the end I was left desperate from nuance or surprise; the film has plenty to shock (or at least, try to shock), but it doesn't always work. And shocks are not the same as sup rises. I did find myself chuckling throughout; there are plenty of genuinely funny moments, and there are moments of intelligence in the screenplay, which a decent cast are doing their best to flesh out when they have the chance.
Mentioning the cast, Harris Dickinson is the standout, and Charbli Dean shows promise which we will tragically never get to see realised (she died shortly before the film's release). There's an extended sequence that attempts to outdo Monty Python's Mr Creosote sketch from The Meaning Of Life; there's more bodily fluids in that sequence then you're likely to see in many other contexts. The narrative is too episodic, and some characters are set up only to seemingly disappear from consideration for no real reasons. The most concerning aspect is that its take on the gap between ultra-rich and poor can come across a middle-class view of what poverty is like and how 'poor people' (advisedly in quotation marks) think and act. I was left with the nagging feeling that it would take much more courage to allow the real poor to speak for themselves, rather than to put words in their mouths and versions of actions in their minds.
It's not unrewarding; it will provoke thought and it does entertain, but there are better films in this popular sub-genre.
liaberlin - 11 January 2023 Humor, irony, truth Of the 3 chapters of this film - which did not feel like a 2:40 movie at all (not a boring second!) - I loved the cruise ship episode most: lots of irony and funny scenes (I could have done without the puking, though). I particularly loved the different characters, who, like in GoT and other great movies or series, where as repulsive and stupid as loveable and great. Here and there, there was a bit of bluntness in the director's moves (can't tell where, because I don't want to spoil), but all in all this film is as good as any festival film for prime time movie theaters can get. Congrats to the team.
hfhkfkyf - 5 January 2023 Don't know who gave it 7,5 but it's a bad movie And a long one too...
I spent 2,5 hours of my life hoping to see something decent based on the rating. IMDB is losing its credibility.
Weird joke at the beginning that gives the name to the movie while the rest of the plot has nothing to do with it. The ending is a total fail. The directors probably hoped to create a suspense but what we've got as the result is lack of clarity. I have a feeling as if all this movie is a huuuge inner joke which I do not understand. Would not recommend my friends to watch it. Wasted time of my life. Created an account here just to express my indignation.
Don't watch it you people. Consume good movies instead of this.
UniqueParticle - 1 January 2023 Brilliant social commentary and ridiculous at times in a fun way! I and my mom watched this together on New's Years Eve in the last few hours that was an interesting experience! I love how my mom knew Triangle of Sadness is about greed, not caring about the poor, and bonkers of silliness. The communism drunk scene is so damn good! Dolly De Leon as Abigail was marvelous easily of the best aspects and worthy of her nomination. All 3 parts of the movie had cringe yet well filmed each with brilliant money topics, the drunk sequence, and the entire island greediness plus the beginning had a little bit of metaphors I'm pretty sure. A lovely whacky film of mindless entertainment that is a lot better than I thought!
gerhard-28 - 28 December 2022 Good, but not feel-good The movie was introduced by the director, wising you a blast and hoping to crack the audience up. For me it did something, but it was too uncomfortable for me to laugh. Being relatively well off in this world this movie holds a mirror to me and I can't help but feeling ashamed. Mission accomplished I guess.
Triangle of Sadness is referenced to its title in a physical way in the beginning, but soon shows that the mantra of everybody is equal is a hollow phrase. The real triangle of sadness seems to be between beauty, money and power. Everybody is not treated equally, and beauty, money and power makes that few have the upper hand and can treat the rest like whatever the rich man sells, while creating constructs in their minds to justify their method of gaining wealth.
Those who have no beauty money or power are forced into a subservient role, and would do anything for beauty, money or power. When the hierarchy is reversed, the new one in power (of survival) is quickly corrupted and will do anything to remain in power.
pfxdznr - 23 December 2022 Gilligan's Island meets Lost meets Lord of the Flies Disturbingly funny story divided into 4?decisive chapters that set very different stages in the rocky relationship between a very successful model and instagram influencer and her wannabe male model boyfriend. As in real life the rich wield all the power to control the behaviour of those in their employ and even expect obeisance from those not in their immediate realm. These roles get reversed at one point when Mother Nature decides to reminds us that humans cannot always control the elements. Reminiscent of the wildly popular TV series Lost, there's action, great acting, beautiful scenery and ever present threat of violence. Recommend!
aviranamos - 17 December 2022 A Great start. that's all The first chapter of the film doesn't match and reminds any sign of the last chapter. It starts out interesting and and as a watcher, you really want to find out how's the relationship of this couple going.
For some reasons (i don't know why) the script jumps out of the relationship and ruins all the tension and build up of the story, the last chapter of the movie is such a mess. Unrealistic and becomes not funny with disgusting erotic scenes...
i don't know what's the reason that the director chose to make L-O-N-G crashing scene. It was horrible
such a disappointment. I don't know why i read a lot of positive reviews of that movie.
bredaspacapan - 15 December 2022 Not bad, not good First 3rd of the movie Triangle of sadness was promising. Reflecting on todays youth and the shallow (digital) world of easy money making.
I undrestood the rest as a satire and maybe the end had an educational point, trying to show how the world has changed since Marx and Lennin and communism and socialism etc. And how some values of that era were not all that bad and how we would need some of it, its values to survive, to be a good and worthy and evolving society, to have a bit of a though system to keep us in check (in the contrast of how 'easy and shallow' we live today)... But all of this intention just melted away since the story contiuned into sarcastic dark comedy and the 'drama' part was gone ending cery fast and predictable as in a Hollywood movie. And i dont see an artistic movie, not at all, just another commercial script of many, made for entertainment only.
As soon as i have finished watching, i forgot it. Cant belive the rewards it got... I am surprised.
I guess the cryteria in the film industry is also becoming very narrow and without real intelectual approach in judging, they are just counting 'likes' and money.
