rockyjays - 5 May 2024 Did we even watch the same movie? I do not usually write reviews, but after seeing very low ratings it made me asking myself did I even watch the same movie than those people giving close to zero ratings!
This was very entertaining, De Niro gave pretty solid performance, after oh so many typecast roles done merely on an auto pilot... and exceeded my expectations.
Yes, there is similarity to Meet the Fockers, but that's what the genre is.
My only critisism is the critique itself. Seems that people aren't familiar that movies need to be reviewed within their context. Like if you buying a truck, don't expect to take it on a race track and review next to the Corvette - or vice versa.
Some people may skip a movie because of a bad rating - I almost did on this one - but luckily ignored it.
moorea-89760 - 29 November 2023 Two hysterical Italian people making a fun movie This movie was so fun and entertaining! No it might not be an Oscar winning performance - but get into the spirit of it! Two actors with similar heritages have come together to portray a humorous play on Italian upbringing (and could also be identified in other heritages). Dinero and Maniscalco are on their game. Any couple with crazy divergent families who are in love and married despite the odds will totally relate. If you loved the Focker's series, then you will love this. It's one of the funniest set of movies of all time. While people say it's a "Focker's Wannabe" well it is and it's just as good. It's a good lighthearted movie with lots of laughs.
magnuslhad - 1 October 2023 bland The first rule of comedy is you should make the audience laugh. Now that seems like a pretty obvious thing to say, but those responsible for this cringeworthy awfulness need to hear this. I imagine Sebastian Maniscalco had some personal investment in this story. Perhaps it is autobiographical. That would explain his storytelling-for-idiots incessant narration throughout this film. This is framed as an immigrant story, but is a love story between a second-generation Italian and a ninth(ish)-generation Englishwoman really the tale of immigration in 2023 America? A female lead who seems to be acting in her own film, an extended family of forced one-note stereotypes (whoever came up with the New Age brother should be banished), and yet another movie that forces us to look at De Niro and ask, 'What were you thinking?'
