RightOnDaddio - 26 June 2024 Sofa Surfing Streams of Cinema on Small Screens In The Summer of 2024 I am what I myself consider, a Bob Marley fan. I've always liked his music and what I know about his persona. I've owned his music through the years on audiocassette, compact disc, and now vinyl. I've owned and currently own t-shirts with his likeness. I enjoyed the 2012 Bob Marley documentary, Marley. And I also am a pretty avid listener and follower of his son Ziggy and was also a fan of his football player son Rohan at the University of Miami. I own a Marley Coffee Cookbook too.
Gosh, I guess I say all this to say that even with all that, I'm by no means a Bob Marley expert or historian.
So, when watching this movie for the first time, having missed it in theaters, all I'm looking for is entertainment, good music, maybe to learn something and to get that unmistakable Marley vibe.
Did this movie achieve that?
And the answer is yes.
Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch are both outstanding in their roles.
This movie captures the time and place perfectly.
You are easily transported there all the way.
This movie has a wonderful message and it is one of peace.
It's also about a man who loves his wife and children.
A man who loves where he is from and the people there too.
And it's all so beautiful and the strength he brings and the strength he receives in return.
Bob Marley was more than just a legend and an icon.
He was a man.
This is one of the best movies of 2024.
sistairie - 29 May 2024 Understand biopic is before you watch... Excellent movie and cast! I am a long time resident of Jamaica and was in the area when some of these early scenes were happening. I found the movie very moving. I was not expecting 100% accuracy since biopics allow artistic freedom. The movie was designed mainly to focus on the years when Bob found his life threatened. The Jamaican performing artists included in the film were very good. As a 40 year radio reggae dj, the movie brought back so much sentimental feelings. That in itself made it very worthwhile. Most of all, the manner Haile Selassie and Bob's dad were blended perfectly into a psycho-social statement that is extremely relevant.
