Dev Patel shines in this film!
Monkey Man is a great directorial debut from Dev Patel who also stars in the film as well. The action in this film is very creative, realistic, and graphic. There were moments where I was ducking and dodging as I was in the fight. Dev Patel has a natural gift behind the camera and you can really tell here. Think John Wick but a little more in depth and meaning with the story. Also there are less guns used in the film and more knife/fist fights instead. Jordan Peele was also an executive producer on this film and you can tell he has his imprint all over it. Monkey Man is a really good time but could of had a stronger ending. Overall Monkey Man gets a very solid 8 stars out of 10.

10 for choreography, 10 for acting, 5 for story line, 8 for directional debut
Dev Patel on his directional DEBUT... Didn't hope for a masterpiece but I will be completely honest.. NOT disappointed at all.

Man can act pretty well and for that he has nothing to prove more, but as a director.. well let's see as from the director himself.. "The shoot being a complete catastrophe" cauz of 1. The pandemic 2. Multiple last minute location changes cauz of the above forcing them to loose the JOHN WICK stunt team 3. Death of their chief lighting technician cauz of a heart attack The list goes on... THE SHOOT WAS CURSED

Didn't expect much but was surprised by it being this good... A good no of plot holes but as a whole was not bored at all, definitely worth your time and attention.

Infact it made me proud thinking that a movie like this can me made as a sub genre of BOLLYWOOD with a tinge of JOHN WICK like actions (SOME ACTION SCENES ARE ACTUALLY MIND-BLOWING)

Best thing about this for Dev Patel as a director is that YOU CAN ONLY GO UP FROM HERE and I'll be rooting for you !!

PS. Jordan Pele (director of Get Out, Nope, Us.. actor and director of renowned sketch comedy Key and Pele) came along as a producer.

A kickass revenge movie, a little dark
If you're into these type of movies, this is for you.

A street level superhero movie, but not for kids. Great fight scenes - lots of blood, sweat, and treachery - very intense and gritty. I would say it's kind of artistic in its violence. Imagine a bloody Bruce Lee flick with a mix of Kill Bill and Fight Club, but taking place in the Mumbai underground.

Dev Patel is very believable in this role, and then I found out that he was a competitive martial artist. It doesn't surprise me that he suffered injuries in several of the fight scenes.

If I were to change anything (as a big fan of Superhero movies), I would have made his character more god-like and mystical, more of the embodiment of the half monkey, half human deity, Hanuman. He's definitely way more powerful than most human villains, but not by a huge margin - I would say he's up there with the Punisher or Dare Devil, maybe a tad more.

Maybe the gods wanted him to struggle and bleed for his victories?

    A very watchable action movie.

    Loved it but...
This was a great movie except for maybe two things: the Profanity was very much over the top. And the sex scenes were pretty graphic and came at surprise moments in the movie. I understand that this Movie is about revenge and the sex trafficking of individuals. And even minors, but it makes it extremely difficult to watch with family members or even friends over. Also, if you're watching on peacock, it makes it very difficult two fast forward and to know where exactly to stop netflix's much better at that actually. Anyway, it was a great film, very much like an indian john wick, but john wick didn't have all of those elements which made it much more enjoyable.

About as direct to VHS as you can get
I appreciate Dev & and the few unique flourishes found in this film, but felt totally baited by ridiculous and unjustified hype. This is not a good film, it was so dull and paint-by-numbers that I almost left the theater several times and should have.

I don't really understand the reviews here and elsewhere - the plot is threadbare and recycled feeling, and lacks real impact.. or energy.. on top of the camera issues mentioned by everyone.

If reviews are being bumped up by Dev's fans, or fans of the nods to the trans sect featured in the film... they're doing a real disservice, since expectations don't match reality.
